NAMBA Proposals

Included with this issue of the
Propwash
are two proposals for the
membership to vote on. However, before
going in to any detail about these
proposals, I would like to discuss the
results to the four proposals that were
voted on in April - May earlier this year.
Proposal #1 was changing the way
voltage is measure on batteries for FE
racing from nominal to actual so that
batteries could be measured at the races.
The proposal passed overwhelmingly.
What was interesting was that NAMBA
members who show their interests to be
gas and nitro in the membership portal
showed more interest in voting than the
FE boaters.
Proposal #2 was about eliminating
self righting boats in FE competition.
That proposal passed by a majority with
no problem. What I found interesting
(and this is just my opinion), was why
there was a concern about self righting
boats. This was mentioned by a number
of voters who like to make comments on
their voting ballots. Shouldn’t a boat that
has flipped be called “dead boat” and not
be allowed to continue racing in the
period of time it takes to right itself?
Evidently, somewhere out there in the
racing world, boats are allowed to
continue racing if they can find a way to
right themselves before the winning boat
has crossed the start/finish line.
Proposal #3 will be addressed later as
it was withdrawn by the submitting
district.
Proposal #4 was adding a Vintage
1/8th Scale Unlimited class in addition
to the current class of Scale Unlimited.
The Vintage boats (round nose style)
could run in a class by themselves and
also run in a class with the more modern
picklefork hulls.
Now back to Proposal #4 which was
withdrawn. Please take in to consid-
eration that the following is my
interpretation and may not reflect what
could happen if a decision needed to be
rendered at a race.
When a proposal is submitted to the
NAMBA general membership for
voting, there is already a 75% chance of
it passing by just being there.
