NAMBA Nats Thank You
Lenny and LeAnn Blake
District 19 Model Boaters
Normally we do not write articles about
our experiences at the NAMBA Nats for
the
Propwash
newsletter so this will be
short.
When we heard the Nats were going to
be held at Lake Minden in California, we
started asking people we knew who had
attended the 2014 FE Nats the usual
questions. We were told it was hot, the
water was rough and the insects will eat
you alive.
Well, the timing was right for us so we
attended the 2015 NAMBA Nationals. The
accommodations at the 1000 Trails Resort
were good, very reasonable and the
weather was good. We are speaking for
ourselves now and not others who
attended.
Some racers may not have been happy
about the calls they received while racing.
For us, the boat racing is all about social-
izing after racing. We enjoyed several
nights of BBQing and getting together with
other racers that were staying at the resort.
The “Welcome Party” was one of the
best we had been to in a long time. The
layout was excellent!
It was also an honor to have the boys
from down under traveling to the United
States to support this year’s Nationals.
Also showing up were Marie and Grahame
Haines from New Zealand. Visiting and
getting to know them was our pleasure.
We met a new racer in District Nine
that is a newcomer to our sport. We
noticed he had good equipment and for
being his first time at a NAMBA
Nationals, he made the podium with a
second place in GX-1 Crackerbox.
Congratulations to Darin Christensen.

So what are the power differences between the various modifications? The graphs
below, courtesy of M&D, give an idea. They were tests on the same engine returned for
a rebuild and the latest modifications. Eyebrowing the transfers and increasing the intake
timing added nearly one half horsepower with better high rpm power.
All the below modifications and timings can be used with bigger bore and longer
stroke engines. Start out with small changes and work up to more radical modifications.
