By the way, if you haven’t guessed by now, those are pictures of my shop. I know
all of you are a lot neater than I am so you are ready to start racing as soon as the
weather allows. You won’t see me for a while because I am still cleaning.
District 20 Happenings
By Karl Loveless
NAMBA District 20 Director
Hello NAMBA members. I hope your current off-season has been wonderful and
full of many new boat builds. In District 20 we have experienced changes in
leadership at the district and club levels which has not happened for many years. It is
strange to think that our current NAMBA President Robert Holland will not be leading
District 20 this upcoming season. And boy did he leave me some BIG shoes to fill but
I am up for it!
I want to publicly thank the entire Holland Family for the years of service and
sacrifice they put in to District 20 which helped lead us to results like expanding the
district from one to three states (Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming), the hosting of two
Nitro and Gas NAMBA National events, and our second hosting of an FE NAMBA
Nationals which will be coming up August 10th – 15th of this year. More details can
be found at
. And of course there are more wonderful oppor-
tunities coming our way in the near future I will report on.
I would also like to thank the local club leaders that have put so much time and
effort into growing their clubs and hosting great district races over the past several
years. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. It was humbling to have been chosen to
lead District 20 and I look forward to getting to know more racers within the district as
well as working with all the other District Directors. I am also very excited to assist
each of our local club leaders in supporting them with expanded growth and quality
hosted district races for all to enjoy.
District 20 is experiencing exciting growth and expanded boating activities like the
swimming pool racing in Wyoming. New clubs are being formed with new places to
race in both Colorado and Utah. How exciting would it be to have a dedicated R/C
boating park with all the amenities? That is right. We could be cutting the ribbon on
such a place in the Denver area within the next two years. I have seen the efforts of
several key people paying off in big way. Our district has attended several boat shows
led by Chris Bopp in the Denver and Colorado Springs areas which has led to
expanded membership and possibly some new race sites. Who doesn’t love new places
to race?
A few more highlights from our district in 2014 were several racers in the Holland
and Loveless family participating in the West Texas Shootout for Autism Awareness
Find ways to store all those boats you built over the
years and can’t bear to part with. Overhead storage
(thanks Jerry Dunlap) is great for a smaller shop
Wall shelf racks are also a great idea
PVC pipe also makes a great rack
