pit area and racing action. It is up to the
CD to keep his eye out for where the
spectators are and ask them to use the
specified area.
It almost always comes down to a
good CD enforcing the rules and using
common sense.

From the above comments, I decided
that attitudes are a lot more important
than rules. This column is one of the
ways NAMBA tries to influence safety
attitudes. Experienced racers and CDs
speaking out when they see obvious
problems are even more important.
See Al Hobbs comments. Perhaps we
need to set up safety committees at the
district level. All of the rules in the
world and all the signed consents are
worthless if we don’t promote a culture
of safety.
Above all do not let
the things shown in
theses pictures happen.
Seeing them is as
bad as doing them. Do
your part to keep a safe
environment.
