National Level
Jerry served on the committee for the
1993 APBA Nationals in Carlsbad, New
Mexico. Jerry also assisted in the
planning for the event and offered his
help daily at the week long event. Jerry’s
many years of experience was vital in
helping plan this event.
Jerry also served as Assistant Contest
Director/Treasurer for the 2003
NAMBA Nationals in Carlsbad, New
Mexico. Jerry was instrumental in
handling the finances for the event and
working closely with Contest Director
Jay Stone to make sure we did not go
over budget. After it was all said and
done, the district was able to hold a very
successful event. With the leftover
money, Jerry and Jay Stone asked that
the district donate $1,000 to the local
Carlsbad Boys and Girls club on behalf
of the public works department and for
the support received from the mayor and
city council. The district representatives
were all in full support of this gesture.
Over the years, Jerry has also written
many articles for the district newsletters
as well as the NAMBA Propwash. He
has offered insight on racing and events
within our area. Jerry does a great job of
keeping our district up to date and
informed.
Model Boating Achievements
Throughout the years, Jerry has won
countless District Championships. Many
times leading the points going into the
final race of the season, Jerry elected to
serve his Contest Director duties by
electing not to race. In doing so, Jerry
gave up the opportunity to earn points
that would secure himself a champion-
ship. In choosing not to race, Jerry
allowed for other boaters to also enjoy
the prestige of winning a District
Championship.
Through his many entries at the Las
Vegas Gas World Cup, West Texas
Shootout, R/C Boat World Champion-
ship Series and various National
Championships over the years, Jerry has
won countless podium finishes. Often a
bridesmaid, in 2013 Jerry finally got the
proverbial monkey off his back and won
the Jersey Skiff National Championship
at the NAMBA Nationals in Salt Lake
City, Utah. We were all thrilled for Jerry
as we know he has come so close so

NAMBA Hall Of Fame Inducts Jerry Wright
By District 7 Model Boaters
Jay Stone and Dale Roberts
There are individuals who have contributed in ways that will leave long lasting
impressions on their clubs and NAMBA. Jerry Wright is definitely one of those
individuals. Having been a constant fixture in NAMBA District 7 since 1978, Jerry
has handled just about every role imaginable. As a calming voice of reason, Jerry’s
wisdom often helps guide racers in New Mexico and Texas. Currently serving as
NAMBA District 7 Director and Treasurer, Jerry quietly keeps NAMBA District
7 running as a well-oiled machine.
Club Level
Having lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the vast majority of his boating
years, Jerry was always heavily involved within the local club. The club is presently
known as the Albuquerque High Desert Racers. Throughout the years Jerry has served
as Commodore, Vice Commodore, Treasurer and Secretary. The Albuquerque group
has always had a small contingency of racers however not having any local water to
test, practice or ever hold a race makes keeping the group active a true challenge. Jerry
and the Albuquerque area racers would travel to other District 7 locations to race,
break-in and setup new boats. Jerry had worked with local hobby shops and acted as a
contact person for those interested in joining the hobby.
Jerry recently retired and he and his wife Carole Jean, have since moved to Hudson
Oaks, Texas which is approximately 25 miles west of Fort Worth, Texas. Jerry and
Carole Jean’s move was made so that they could be closer to their children and grand
children. Since moving, Jerry has been active with the Dallas/Fort Worth area racers
participating and assisting with events held in Carrolton, Texas.
District Level
Over the past 38 years, Jerry has held every position available at the district level.
Jerry has also been the Contest Director at more events than one can even count.
Currently serving another stint as District 7 Director, Jerry oversees one of the more
active districts within NAMBA. Covering New Mexico and Texas, NAMBA District
7 is easily the largest district distance-wise. With his calm demeanor and guidance,
District 7 continues to have some of the best racing to be found. Jerry created the
Texas/New Mexico Points Series that has helped rejuvenate racing in our district.
More importantly, through Jerry’s actions over the years, the district prides itself in
camaraderie and group dinners away from the races. Each club now works to secure a
local eatery for a Saturday night dinner at each event during the race season.
