NAMBA Combat Riding High in California
until WWCC teamed up with local NAMBA
racers to build a combat beach at Lake Minden,
California. One of the main District 9 racing sites,
and home of the 2014 NAMBA Nationals.
In March 2015, WWCC and NAMBA District
9 worked together with the Lake Minden
management and designed, engineered, and
constructed a 70' long beach adjacent to the race
launch and retrieval ramp. The rest is, as they say,
history. In March of 2016, the plan is to extend
the beach another 5 to 8 feet out into the lake and
construct a set of stairs to make access safer and
more convenient.
That's the hard work part of the story. Now for
the fun part...
WWCC has constructed six cargo ships, and
now, six armed cruisers for guests to operate.
Two of WWCC's combat events at Minden
coincide with District 9 races, and yes, both
combat and racing coexist just fine! Racers are
running cruisers during down times, and that
means more ships on the water.
And the finale of the year was the District 9
"Turkey Shoot". A no-points fun event that
culminated in a Thanksgiving pot luck dinner.
This past November, 19 WWCC captains
pitched in, and the dinner evolved into a full
blown feast! This is NAMBA at its best. Just a
bunch of fun loving people who use toy boats as
an excuse to get together in friendship.
On the other side of the NAMBA coin,
WWCC has been hosting two-day combat events
at Maker Faire, both in San Mateo, California in
May, and now in San Diego, in October. All
NAMBA members in the U.S. are invited to
participate, and you don't even need to bring a
boat. WWCC will provide one for you.
