Propwash April 2016 Web.pub - page 19

Saturday night we were treated to a
Bar-B-Que dinner of chicken and ribs by
Ross and the OCD (funny I never looked
at the acronym for the Orlando Culvert
Dodgers before). After a wonderful
meal, we collected around the driver's
stand for their raffle give away. There
were a lot of big prizes including one of
the big monos they use in the Super Boat
Class and at least three motors. I think
they were being gracious and called my
name for a some of the prizes. I even
won a motor which I suspect was a plant
to get me in the GAS.

NAMBA I.T. Visits Sunny Florida
By David Santistevan
NAMBA IT Chairman
A big call out to the amazing boaters of District Three. The Winter Nationals in
January were a huge success and they really rolled out the hospitality for me while I
was there! The Orlando Culvert Dodgers put on a first class event that was well run
and everyone really had a great time. I believe they had several hundred boats and lot
of folks from the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico as well as other parts of the country. I
had an opportunity to spend time with David Horsley, the new District Director, and
Ross Medina, the Commodore of the Orlando Culvert Dodgers who I now consider
them as good friends. I also got to meet a lot of other high profile boaters from District
Three including such people as Wayne Farrow and Ron Byrd just to name a few.
They like to run a lot of gas riggers including the very nasty twins. The Jersey Skiff
and mono classes are also very popular and there are some amazing drivers out there. I
was also introduced to a new class specific to that area called the "Super Boat". I am
not quite sure what the exact specs for the class are, but these were big monos. Many
of them with twins both inline single screw and side-by-side double screws. They ran
a special course that was at least a 100 feet wider and maybe 100 yards longer, and
these boats flat moved.
I was also tickled to see that Offshore is a big class out there. They run a typical
"M" course, however the tops of the "M" are the wider course I was talking about for
the Superboats, and the long buoy at turn two is also used with the Superboats. I was a
corner judge for most of the weekend and it was very interesting to hear the rules for
milling for these two classes, as well as the other judging aspects.
