from local businesses and, overall, put in a lot of effort to help make the event a success. ANTHONY LOMBARDO: Also a member of Central Coast Model Boaters, Anthony took on running point preparing the race site to welcome 90+ boaters plus spectators as well as setting the race course. He also handled grounds keeping during the event. Anthony is also a person who works with City of Seaside resources for all the model boating activity at Roberts Lake. He provided the retrieve boat crew of Zack Flint, Mario Mabalot, Michael Mayer, Nick Stinnette, and Shy who provided a retrieve boat and also covered overnight security. ALAN TERRY: Alan participated in many aspects of the event planning, but it was his work executing the plan to get trailers and canopies set up to perfection creating a competitor pit road that generated a lot of camaraderie among the racers that stood out the most. There were those that questioned whether Roberts Lake could support a large event like the Nationals and he showed we could do it with room to spare. Alan also dedicated time away from his own racing to do Gas tech and inspections as well as get the business area ready each morning. BRENDA & ALLIE TERRY: At the event one of the most thankless yet critical roles is scoring and running the store. Scratches become opportunities to consolidate heats which is critical for providing the best possible racing for spectators to watch, but also saving race time to open up testing at the end of the day or getting racers away from the site and into town to enjoy their evening sooner. Brenda and Allie were awesome all week including handling the raffle. TONY OJEDA: What more can be said about the pit boss legend? Tony wasn’t able to be there for the entire week, but when he was he assumed his pit boss role and trained Jeff Langan to pick up when he had to leave. LENNY BLAKE & RALPH HENRY: When we needed help with a CD and turn judge Lenny and Ralph stepped up and gave us a hand. Lenny also brought his PA to extend the reach of our announcements across the entire pit area. MARK GRIM: From the beginning I would asked Mark to help coordinate CD’s, but as things changed and I relocated Mark stepped up and encouraged me to see things through even though I was doing it from a few thousand miles away offering any assistance he could provide. As time went on, we decided flying to the event would be best for us and Mark offered to CD most all of the event which created a consistency throughout the week that racers appreciated. Mark also assisted Alan Terry with inspections. MARK ANDERSON/MIKE HUGHES/KELLY GRUOL/ ERIC BOULET: Here’s a group we can always count on to help. This team came up to help judge when asked and even when they weren’t. They understand the importance of having a good, experienced perspective on the judging stand and we cannot thank them enough for their help. Oh, they are fantastic raffle ticket sellers as well which turned out to have a huge impact. MIKE MULARKEY/AURORA MARKETING: For the past two Nationals Mike has provided high quality radio communi- cations that have proven very effective in helping make many elements of the event more efficient. DAVID SANTISTEVAN: David was gracious enough to provide the paddleboats we had for sale. If you haven’t been to the Nationals, in the middle of the week there’s typically a BBQ at the host hotel or at the pond where rubber band-driven paddle- boats (stock and maybe mod) are raced for distance in PROPWASH April 2023 3 elimination heats to determine the winner. It’s a lot of fun and worth a lot of laughs as well. CITY OF SEASIDE: The City of Seaside has always been a great partner for Central Coast Model Boaters and, for this special event, waived all permit fees and even paid for the toilets and wash stations. It’s always special when race organizers have a close relationship with the host city, and they become so engaged. HORIZON HOBBIES/PRO BOAT/SPEKTRUM & RYAN KEPHART: As Presenting Sponsors they made significant investments into the cost of the banquet, provided a lot of raffle items, and even supplied boats for our spectator raffle where six raffle winners each won a Pro Boat Jet Jam. Those people raced their Jet Jam with the winner getting a Pro Boat Miss Geico Catamaran. That was a great moment for spectators and racers alike. Their participation helped set a standard that can be replicated in the future including having Ryan on site for the better part of the week. A huge thank you to them. OUR CLASS SPONSORS AND RAFFLE DONATORS: Though class sponsors are tied to the trophies for that class, their contributions go well beyond that into supporting the cost of several areas of hosting the event and are critical to the event’s success. Some even donate to the raffle. Those sponsors are listed with the results below and we can’t thank them enough. We also thank those who donated raffle items including Futaba, Octura, StumpFAB, ATR, Speedmaster, Dan Ellison, Zippkits, Insane Boats, ABC Props, Assault Racing Designs, and BAM Racing Products.
