District 19 who most recently raced the G Limited Mono series. And if you have ever heard of Dale “Cyborg” Roberts from District 7, you now know where the successful family history of racing came from. It runs in the family. News From 19 By Richard Romero NAMBA District 19 Director Like most districts we had big plans for 2020. We had added some new racing rules and even extended our racing season another month to go from eight races to nine. Our first race of the season started in Lake Havasu City next to the London Bridge. This race is one of our largest events and it draws the most spectators by far. This race was hosted by The London Bridge Model Boat Club. Jim Foster and his crew do an amazing job hosting this event. Attending this race tends to cause an issue for me as my wife says no more race shirts and if you bring one home, one must go. Jim and his team produce some really cool event shirts, and as we all know, you can not just buy one, see my problem… This race was well attended with 186 boats and it produced another District 19 first time winner! Bill Webber won his first District 19 race by winning G- LTD Crackerbox and was treated to his first complimentary D19 bath. Congratulations to Bill Webber and all the winners of this event! The second race of 2020 was held at Pirates Cove in Needles, California. This race is hosted by the Needles River Rats led by Richard and Judy Hazlewood with some outside help from Brian Bounds and Shane Forrest. This race would be our largest race of 2020 with 234 boats entered and unfortunately it would be our last race of 2020. What I believe makes this race a huge draw is its location and the grounds. We race off a long sandy beach with gazebos and trailer parking at the sands edge with on-site lodging and overnight camping available. When you add the location with the members hosting the race it makes this race a difficult one to miss. The 2020 race had almost perfect weather, and the racing and people were amazing as always. Just after this race, our racing, our country, and our world would change with the news of COVID19. We would all have to rethink the way we handled our day to day lives. We would have to be more understanding, patient, and mindful of each other while not knowing what would happen to us. This terrible virus has affected all of us, some have contracted it, fought it and won their own battle, and many have not. We all know someone who has lost a friend or a loved one and know many who are battling it today. With our 2020 season being forced to an end just after two races, I would like to Congratulate our 2020 Season Race leaders! Terry Holland Terry was a District 19 model boater back in the 80’s and a member of the San Diego Argonauts. At one time he got his sons involved in R/C boating. A few years go by and it’s 2003 and (you guessed it), the younger Holland family, now living in Colorado grew up and got back in to model boating. Terry is responsible for currently having seven family members in NAMBA.
