NAMBA March 2021 Web

Presidents Message (Continued from page 1) I have enjoyed the past four years as NAMBA President and feel that we have moved forward in spite of the 2020 Pandemic. This was done with the cooperation of many NAMBA members and the people willing to serve as officers. I have decided that I will not run for NAMBA office again. NAMBA’s 50th NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS NAMBA has an inspiring history. We would not be where we are today without the planning and dedicated hard work of many people years ago. There are not many of the original NAMBA members still around. But, we will celebrate their success and the legacy they left for us. So much of NAMBA’s history centers around Legg Lake. While NAMBA actually began in the West Coast, it has grown and spread across North America. Over the years our national championships have been held in all four corners of the USA and in Canada. My first NAMBA Nats was in 1981, held in Amarillo, Texas. Since then, it has been my pleasure to attend NAMBA Nats as far to the west as San Diego, Los Angles, and Twin Lakes, Washington. We have held NAMBA Nats as far to the north as New Hampshire; as far south as Florida, as far east as New Jersey, plus, in British Columbia, Canada. And there have been many NAMBA Nats at places in between. Our history does begin along the West Coast and Legg Lake. For that reason, the 2021 NAMBA Nats, our 50th NAMBA Nats, will be held at Legg Lake. A committee made up of Vice President Richard Romero, Secretary Al Waters, Tracy Osborne, Steve Lopez and I started planning this event during the spring of 2020. This will be an event you will want to attend. We have scheduled this event for September, 18th through the 25th. Special social events are planned and we have selected some remarkable awards for class winners. There are two very nice host hotels located within minutes of Legg Lake. The social events will be held at a convention center within walking distance between the host hotels. I hope that our website is up and running by the time of this newsletter. Do not delay getting your room reservations and entries completed. Because of the meal selections available and the timing required, we need to finalize with the convention center and get our banquet meals scheduled early. The hotels have saved a number of rooms for us, but you need to get your room reserved promptly before they run out of rooms. We have begun organizing raffle prizes that are appropriate for a 50th NAMBA National Championships. There will be a large number of engines, radio equipment, boats, hardware, and custom propellers. Plan to buy a lot of raffle tickets as the prizes are especially nice and there are a lot of these nice prizes available for you to win. So, a big thank you to Mr. McCarter and Mr. Delisser for all you have done for the Huntsville Model Boat Association. Safe boating and we will see you at the races! March 2021 The committee has put in a lot of time and effort to make this an event you will not forget. It will be as much of a celebration as it is a competition. I definitely look forward to it and to seeing you at Legg Lake in September. WORKING TOGETHER As mentioned before, we do not know what problems may arise during 2021. But, our history has shown us that working together we can not only get through any difficulties, we can come through with a rewarding result. What it takes is for you to help your clubs, help your district, and help us keep our sites. Cooperate with each other. Pick up after yourself and keep the sites neat. We do not operate in a vacuum. Public officials, spectators, and potential model boaters see us at our best, or at our worst depending on the situation. Make the effort to show that model boating is a great family sport/hobby that can be appropriate for anyone. Our language and our attitudes are infectious. When you help other people smile, you are doing yourself and everyone around you a favor. See you at Legg Lake.
