New District 8 Director By Jim Mamaril NAMBA District 8 Director Hello fellow NAMBA members. I would like to introduce myself to those of you that I have not met yet. My name is Jim Mamaril and I have been appointed NAMBA District 8 Director. I have been a member of the Puget Sound Model Boat Club for many years and have enjoyed racing with all the people involved around the area. I have raced strictly nitro boats but have enjoyed watching and helping out with some of the Electrics and Gas boats. I got started in the hobby when my sister-in-law moved in with us in the early 90’s and amongst her stuff was an old Prather tunnel with a 3.5 K&B hanging off the back. It was in rough shape but being a machinist by trade I took it as a challenge that I had to make it work again, and that was the beginning of my passion for model boating. I did get that first boat running and found myself with another tunnel boat from one of the local hobby stores. I eventually became part of the Puget Sound Model Boat Club where I found many new friends willing to help me get up to speed and racing with them regularly. Many of those new friends then are still my friends today, which goes to show that the hobby brings people together. In the late 90’s I took a hiatus from racing to concentrate on raising a family. It lasted longer than expected but I eventually found my way back in the mid 2000’s and low and behold all those friends from my earlier stint in the club were there to welcome me back. Although the technology had changed, the basics were still the same. I soon found myself in the thick of things and having more fun than I had in a long time. Since coming back I have found that I have been able to help many of the newer members in the same way that I was helped out when I first came into the club. This makes me feel that I can also help the others in our district by representing them at the national level as District Director. I am looking at it as a challenge the way that first boat was a challenge and I am hoping that I can make positive changes moving forward. Thanks for reading my story and I hope to see you at the races. Traveling Social Media By Al Waters NAMBA Executive Secretary Editors Note: In traveling the Internet I came across a Facebook posting from Propworks West owner Brent Daily who posted a thank you from Richard Bentley who is out of Tucson, Arizona. Richard became a new boater in 2018. Neither are aware that this article is being published. This is from my friend Richard Bentley. This guy is just fun to be around. I love racing with him!!! “Wasn’t sure just how to say all of this because the list is rather long. To thank all of you amazing fellas that have helped me along in my first season in 2018. First of all, Bruce Seida for being that pit guy doing your best to help me keep my cool and all the traveling we did this past year. It was a hell of a road to travel. I know a lot of you fellas have more of these plaques than you know what to do with but this is my first. Tucson Model Boat Club is full of some of the greatest guys you’ll ever meet. And without Karl Morse, I would still be playing with toy wooden boats.. now look it’s like a drug addiction I can’t get enough! Richard Romero you’ve taught me a lot about rules and the way things should be run along with helping me find a few speed secrets. I need to be able to knock on the back door of some of the fastest guys in the District. Ray Presnall has done a lot of the same things. Little simple things you wouldn’t even consider and man it has helped my driving a lot. Although I have slipped here and there, it only gets better they say. Bill Duffner and Don Carpenter. I’ve gained a friendship from these two I hope I never lose. So many names to mention the list is far too long. I heard so much about a Brent Daily prop since day one. I didn’t believe his props could make such a difference. As we all know they “Truly make the difference”! Pushed my mono into that speed they/we all quest for. You have the skills to take my bills (dollars) brother! LOL. To many more years of the most fun hobby/sport I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Thank you all! See you all in Havasu very soon." PROPWASH 4 April 2019
