four or more boats. Again something nice to see. We had some new (to us) racers. Greg Bagnell ran in G-2 Mono and Open Mono. Matt Smith ran in Classic Thunderboat, G-1 Outrigger, A Hydro and nitro 1/8th Scale Unlimited. Tom Monahan came up from the Berkshires to run in 1/8th Scale Unlimited also. Terry Munn made the long trek from Canada, and was nice to see Butch Montano and Zach Davis at our race. Actually, I was glad to see so many make it. It was like old times. This was the first race of the year and it showed a little bit. Everyone was real good about using the retrieve boat. However, it was out a lot and I think we were not used to having so many boats in attendance. We were running so late that the racers voted to stop after four rounds. As Contest Director, I added to the problem by being used to 18 to 20 boat race days and have become lackadaisical about time management. I allowed open water to run an hour longer which we have been able to accommodate in recent years. If this trend continues, we will have to revert to the prior race day schedule and stick to it. The racing was fun to watch and very competitive. The six boat Gas Sport Hydro class was very exciting going in to the first turn after the start as any of the drivers will attest. You may have noticed in the results on the District 11 web site that we had a blast from the past with Classic Thunderboats. We have not seen them or Nitro 1/8 Scale Unlimited much lately, but wow! There was a legitimate three boat class and they were fun to watch. I hope everyone had a good time and that it will translate into returning to future races! More reports on our races are in store for the future. AMA Shows In Southern California By Dennis Hoover District 19 Model Boater The 2018 Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) show held in Ontario, California was a huge success. NAMBA had the largest booth display on record featuring various powered boats and submarines. The auditorium was packed full with many showing interest in model boating. The next AMA show will be held November 2-4, 2018 at the Fairplex in Pomona. NAMBA will be in charge of running the model boat pond. We will need NAMBA members to bring their boats out and run. Please contact Dennis Hoover at (562) 883-5685 for additional information. covered will be sent to our insurance company. Typically, personal coverage will pay almost everything, but in those cases where a member has no health insurance or limited coverage, NAMBA insurance is there. The reason behind providing accident insurance was that some members without insurance felt they had to quit NAMBA as they could not afford an accident. Over the years, NAMBA has relied on these insurance policies to protect our members from lawsuits and expensive medical bills. Some insurance claims have been small and some quite large. We need each member to think safety first. Just because we have the coverage, does not mean we should take unnecessary chances. I have personally seen two serious injuries sustained by NAMBA members over the years. Both were extremely painful and while the boaters recovered fully, those experiences make us realize how dangerous it can be if we ignore safety concerns. The Travelers Liability coverage and the AIG Accident policy are in place for all current NAMBA members, including Single Event Members. The coverage does not apply for an accident you have running a model boat in your backyard swimming pool. But, when you are at a NAMBA event, you have the best insurance coverage provided by any model boating organization. Your membership card is proof that you are a NAMBA member and that the insurance coverage is there to protect you. Make sure to have your membership card with you at all NAMBA events, as the CD may require you to produce that card to prove you are a member. I hope you never have a serious accident. Safe NAMBA boating. The Waterline of District 11 By Rags Grenier District 11 Director Editors Note: Rags Grenier keeps an e-mail list of all members in his district. After each district race, he sends out a newsletter to keep the membership informed. Now you can be informed of the goings on in the New England states. ROLLINSFORD IN JUNE Well, race number one is now under our belts and was an eye opener! Forty three boats in eleven classes is the largest attendance we have had is some time I believe. Only three classes were the minimum of three boats. All of the others were PROPWASH October 2018 5
