You can order your swag from our web site. And we do accept PayPal. A huge thank you to Tracy Osborne for setting up our store and maintaining our web site. Those of you who know me have heard me say many times “we are friends first and racers second”. As life moves forward we lose friends and family. We in District 19 lost a few of our family this year. We lost a long-time west coast racer Vince Henderson. Vince was an amazing guy with huge smile and a heart of gold. Vince, you are missed. Rest in Peace my friend. Dorothy Prather (Prather Products) passed away in early July. Dorothy, along with her husband Al and son Terry, raced in our district for many years from the late 1970s through the early 1990s. For those new to our district who may not know, if it was not for their family we would not have the wonderful drivers' stand we have at Legg Lake today. Joe Monohan was a pioneer, legend and a NAMBA Hall of Fame member. Joe was huge part in the R &D and evolution of the outboard engine and was a fierce competitor. I came in to this hobby as a tunnel head and was always trying to emulate Joe’s performance on the water. Even with Joe’s help and his “707 Specialties” products, I could never get there…. Rest in Peace Mr. Monohan. I hope to see you all at the 2018 NAMBA Nationals being held in Dallas, Texas by the Dallas RC Thunderboats and District 7. These folks have been working their tails off to put on what should be a top notch event. Travel safe and good luck to those attending! See you at the pond. A New NAMBA District (Key to Growth) By David Santistevan NAMBA I.T. Chairman I have had the privilege of talking with a number of people I respect in NAMBA about a number of problems that we are facing within our districts. One of my fellow boaters and I were at dinner earlier in May, and we were talking about some of the struggles that we are facing in our district. Specifically, we discussed the hard time that our current District Director has had over his term playing referee and dealing with issues that really made it impossible for the district to move forward with new ideas. During our discussion, we wondered why anyone would want to be a District Director. It can be a thankless, winless job that offers little reward and satisfaction. Looking around the country, we see so many examples of this in almost every district. In these times of divisiveness it seems like the District Director’s job is mostly about playing referee instead of promoting the growth of the hobby. So why does this matter? The District Director is really the main spoke of the NAMBA wheel. Their job is to provide the connective elements between the individual cultures of each district and the national culture of NAMBA. They are charged with organizing and promoting model boating in their respect- tive areas. Most importantly, and above all, they are the NAMBA Board of Directors. As the NAMBA Board of Directors they are a key element in keeping our hobby vibrant and viable. It is critical to our organization that each District Director is engaged and involved in bringing new ideas to the organization to keep it fresh and representative of our membership. With Lenny and Leann Blake’s race (Rum Racing) in Tempe, Arizona being the last race of the year, you know it will be a great time for those that attend. Rum Racing always provide great lunches and a barbeque held at the pond on Saturday night. We have a few classes that will come down to determining champions at this last race and some that are already in the books. I can say its been a great year in District 19! With our membership over 300 members and a strong core of people putting together club races, I can only say “Thank You”. You are the reason we continue to grow as we have over past few years and with your continued help, the trend will continue. Earlier in the year, Steve Lopez (Insane Boats) and I spoke about creating an online store where we could sell our district swag. I am proud to say that we sold out of our first order of hats and shirts in the first two months.
