NAMBA Secretary News By Al Waters NAMBA Executive Secretary We are now a few years in to using the NAMBA Membership Portal and we pretty much have all of the little bits and pieces worked out. Changes we are now making are basically upgrades to make it even more user friendly. We have had three options to pay for memberships, site insurances and club registrations. Mail a Check, Credit Card by telephone (you talk to me), and PayPal. You will now see two icons for payment rather than three however you will still have three options. The Mail a Check and Credit Card payment will be one icon with the information as before. This will be much simpler but even the slightest change can baffle some. This year, when you receive your secure e-mail for renewals, you will be directed to the preliminary payment page rather than to the verify your information page. We are going to rely that your current personal information is correct. If it is not, you will not receive your 2019 membership card nor your Propwash newsletter. By us making this change, it will be that much simpler for you to renew and will also give NAMBA the opportunity to wish you a Happy Birthday. If you get a birthday wish at a time other than your birthday, it is because you have never updated all of your personal information. You can make any changes to your personal information by logging in to your account and click on Manage My Membership. Or e-mail me and I can do it for you. Please remember if you are in the system, you are there for life whether you are an active or non-active member. You never need to create a new account from one year to the next. If you can not locate your account, it is because you have changed your e-mail address at some point during the year. Once you are in the system, everything is all about renewal. If you do not have a computer, no tablet, no Internet, and no cell phone, you still have no worries. You can still log on to your account at any time with someone else’s device or use the library. However, for your 2019 NAMBA membership, we still have you covered. Anyone who falls under this category will receive by mail a paper 2019 membership application to fill out and return. There are only 21 members in all of NAMBA who fall under this category. I used this system for 2018 and it worked very well. Customarily, renewals for 2019 would start on November 1, 2018. We do this because your NAMBA number technically becomes open on January 1, 2019 (I do hold for a couple of months), and many site insurances need to be processed before the start of the new year. This year, 2019 renewals will be available for processing Monday November 12, 2018. The membership portal will be locked down while I am traveling to and from the NAMBA Nationals (California to Texas and back) and the time in November I need to prepare the audits for the insurance company. You then will receive your secure renewal e-mail at that time to renew. If anyone needs a Single Event Insurance during that time, you can call me. All District Directors have been notified so they know what to do to get in touch with me. That’s all I have at this time. If you have any questions, please contact me by telephone, text or e-mail. Just try and do it before I head to the NAMBA Nats in Dallas unless you want to talk me through the drive through Texas. That would make my ride more pleasant. And you know how I am with short conversations. K&B as well as many others refined this basic design into the nitro racing engines we have today. In contrast to the 1 1/2 hp 60’s of the past, a modern design of a piped 10cc engine could easily develop over 4 hp.
