2017 NAMBA Elections for the term 2018-2019 Names of candidates are listed in alphabetical order: NAMBA President: Dave Bestpitch No Bio submitted NAMBA President: Mark Grim Hello, my name is Mark Grim and I am running for the position of NAMBA President for the term years 2018 thru 2019. I have been a NAMBA member consistently since 1982 and have served the past two years as your Vice President. In my 35 years as a NAMBA member I have also served as Assistant District 19 Director in 2000 and 2001 under Doug DeWitte, NAMBA Record Chairman from 2004 through 2017, District 19 Director for 2006 and 2007, NAMBA Vice President from 2008 through 2011, Contest Director for the Amigos Race Team over many years, guest Contest Director for numerous clubs, and participated on the Nationals Committee several times. Over all of these years I have had the opportunity to work closely with several past NAMBA Presidents, and have been surrounded by a tremendous group of model boaters with whom I have collaborated and whose experience I continually trust and draw on. I would like to ask for your vote to now be your next NAMBA President and bring that experience and those relationships to the benefit of the membership. Over the past three decades I have always had the best interests of the NAMBA membership, organization, and model boating at large in mind and have always tried to represent NAMBA and what it stands for in my thoughts and actions and was honored to have those efforts recognized by being inducted into the NAMBA Hall of Fame in 2007. I would now like to take that to the next step by working in close partnership as President with your District Directors, Vice President, Executive Secretary, and the most recent past President who together make up the NAMBA Board of Directors to facilitate the continued building, improving, and growing of this great organization. Some specific things I would like accomplish during this term would be:  Ensure that all of the correct and adequate insurances are in place to protect NAMBA and its members  Complete the development of the Race Management Program developed for the benefit of NAMBA clubs and all Districts to use to help ease the process of hosting races for clubs, as well as improve the visibility of the race results in our online communities  Continue to improve upon the Rule Book so that it best represents the ongoing growth and changes in our hobby Always encourage NAMBA leadership to challenge the status quo and listen closely to the needs of the membership I know or have met a lot of you over the years at various events on a local and national level, however there is a much larger group of you who I have never met and may not have any idea who I am and can only make their decision based on what you are reading. I ask that all of you cast a vote this year for NAMBA President, Vice President, and your District Director if you have that election xx occurring in your area. For NAMBA President I would be honored to have your vote. NAMBA President: Alan Hobbs NAMBA and its members have been important to me since I first joined in 1978. During those many years as a member, I spent 18 years as an elected NAMBA officer; District Director, Vice President and President. Consider the 20 years beginning in 1995; NAMBA membership grew steadily, consistently, year after year. However, during the past 2 years, the NAMBA membership has fallen drastically. We must address the problems causing our membership to drop. Obviously, some current members drop out over time. During those 20 years of growth, some members left for their own various reasons. But, even as some left, NAMBA was able to attract more than enough new members to maintain growth. As NAMBA President, my first objective will be to address the reasons that so many people have been dropping out or moving to other organizations. My second objective will be to attract new members. I do believe that there are some common reasons why people are leaving and that new memberships have slowed. Successfully overcoming the losses in NAMBA membership will require a respect for, and working with, every NAMBA District and the clubs. This means maintaining an open relationship with the District Directors; keeping them informed of the directions and actions taken by the NAMBA national office. It is true that elected officials, to be effective, must lead by example. I will show respect for NAMBA and all of the NAMBA members. We need to get back on the track of steady membership growth. And the first step is to make sure people enjoy their time running model boats. If we do not put an end to the problems, who will? I ask you to support me in this election for NAMBA President.
