Robert Holland, Karl and Kiyan Loveless, Rob and Ron Wojtasek, and others having a
great time at the World Cup.
Even more important, is what we have experienced with the local district racing so
far. We have held events in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming which have all produced
FUN times with great racing.
I thank the Neil Boyle and Jim Osborne families who traveled outside their district
walls to join us this year. We LOVE spending time with them both and always
welcome new faces to our events. We hope to see several new people attend our
District Finals this year in Greeley, Colorado over the September 30th to October 2nd
weekend.
Since taking the drivers wheel of District 20 almost two years ago, one of my goals
has been to improve engagement across all three states in our district and foster the
idea of always moving forward. Other districts may or may not have issues with
regards to multi state voting. I recently used a system that is available to all NAMBA
districts that greatly improved District 20 voting participation. I want to share my
thoughts on the use of the NAMBA Membership Portal system.
I recently needed to address a potential issue within my district and had the need
for a mid-season vote. Normally voting is done once a year at our annual meeting and
you may see one third of my districts total membership in attendance who get to vote.
Over the years I have noticed a decline in overall participation with regards to rules,
submitting rule change requests, or just plain old feedback which has troubled me. I
wanted an easier way for members to vote without having to e-mail and wait for
responses, mail out hard copies and wait for them to be returned, or deal with Skype
type services hoping people could get logged on. Well I have found it.
The last several years we have seen the NAMBA Membership Portal evolving and
I freely admit I didn’t fully understand the capabilities it currently has. A nice feature
that you need to be aware of, is the online voting system that is available to each
individual district. The process was very simple for me and I want to share the steps it
took to setup and conduct voting.
I first created what needed to be said, and then forwarded the information to the
NAMBA IT Chairman. It was only a short time after that I had a live voting setup. I
had just over two thirds of my district vote using this system which was awesome to
see. This system also has the ability to record video which can come in handy if you
are running for District Director or want to explain a proposed rule change. The
system also has the ability to generate reports to confirm the number of votes to have
on hand if needed. I chose to share the report with my entire district to show them the
results which only took seconds. I
wanted to share this option will all
of NAMBA to hopefully help you
conduct district business faster and
with no expense. My long term goal
would be to use this system to
conduct all district matters that need
to be voted on which would allow
all of my members the chance to
participate and be heard.
The last couple of years as a
Director Director have taught me a
lot about myself. To all that have
provided me guidance and have put
up with me, THANK YOU. I will
continue to do my best to support all
racers the best way I know how and
keep looking to improve what we
already have when it is the right
thing to do. I can not wait to see
what the next several years hold for
District 20 and NAMBA a like.
