unwavering support and flexibility
shown at times. Our racing season is
Fast & Furious with eight races
completed across three states in five
months’ time. So you can imagine the
strain it can put on all involved.
I look forward most to sharing some
highlights and successes with NAMBA
that have been happening across my
district. And this season has me smiling
bigger than ever! We had three of our
best model boaters make the trip to the
NAMBA Nationals in Wichita, Kansas
this year. Cade “Paco” Holland is now
our youngest National Champion in
District 20 history. Cade won his first
NAMBA National Championship in
GX-2 Catamaran and also ran very
strong in the other classes he competed
in proving that at the tender age of 10 he
belongs with the best of them.
Robert Holland’s national perform-
ance was very strong earning two firsts,
four seconds and one third place finish
making a total of seven podium finish's.
David Santistevan also had a very
good nationals earning one first, one
second and one third place finish.
We traditionally have a number of
people that love to support racing out-
side our district walls. I feel that it is
important to spotlight these people and
the impact they have in NAMBA around
the country. David Santistevan started
his year off in sunny Florida at the
Winter Nationals and then headed to the
always pleasant Winter Warm-up’s in
Scottsdale, Arizona followed by a trip to
Wichita, Kansas for the NAMBA Gas/
Nitro Nationals and then on to the Indy
Masters in Hobart, Indiana in September.
What a road warrior!
Robert Holland also made the trip to
Scottsdale, Arizona for the Winter
Warmup’s followed by Wichita, Kansas
for the NAMBA Nationals. I am pretty
sure the Holland’s are not done yet this
season.
Ken Boyle has made several trips
to District 19 this season to beautiful
California and has done well against
their district's best.
Our district always has a handful of
members that make the trip to the Gas
World Cup in Las Vegas, Nevada in
October. In any given year you may see

Jensen, John Petras, Ken Boyle,

News From District Three
By David Horsley
NAMBA District Three Director
First of all, I want to start by saying how proud I am of the members of NAMBA
District Three. Attendance this year has been on a solid upswing and I am beginning
to see an atmosphere of positive attitudes and people having a great time getting
together, supporting our clubs, and racing boats.
I am really excited about the interest in nitro being revived at the district races! For
the first time in a long time we had a nitro class race in Miami, Florida at the RAM
race. This is how it started. Elias Vasquez, Jose Cid, Andy Brown and myself raced B
Hydro at the Amelia Earhart Park hosted by the RAM club and we had a blast! I was
happy to see these gentlemen being proactive in their efforts to support the district and
resurrect the nitro classes here in District Three by signing up and coming to the race
and not worrying about waiting to see who else is going to sign up first. If we, as
members of the district become leaders and not followers, we will see attendance and
club support soar like no where else in the country.
At the last race in Brandon Florida, hosted by the Brandon Model Boaters, we had
213 boats for the 8th Annual Twin Rigger Shootout. Mr. Larry Beals took home the
crown again. Great job Larry! At this race we had our first District Three meeting of
the year. We had one item for vote on the agenda which was to raise the cc limit for
the classes where twins are allowed. The current limit is 53 cc's, we voted that the
limit be raised to 64 cc's. This will pertain to the Gas Twin Rigger, Superboat and Gas
Offshore classes in our district. Even though the vote passed on the district level we
are not allowed to run these engines until this rule change is submitted to NAMBA
and goes for a national vote in the October edition of the NAMBA
Propwash
.
We had another premier race in April 9 in Melbourne, Florida with the Space Coast
Rudder Busters. This lake always makes for extremely fast racing with lots of room
for these boats to really stretch their legs. Again, some of the nitro boats come out and
joined the gas boats in some very competitive racing so hopefully the trend will
continue.
With so much talk about nitro I can not forget the solid foundation of the gas
boaters that sign up for every single race no matter what the circumstances may be. I
want to extend my deepest gratitude to those of you that come to every race that you
possibly can. I really hope that I see the attendance at the races continue to increase. I
enjoy seeing each and every one of you, no matter which classes you race. Let’s face
it, when you are able to get away for the weekend to see old friends and make new
ones, you can not help but have a good time doing it. We all started this hobby
because there was an element of fun involved. That was the first thing that drew us all
together. I want that to become one of the most important things we focus on. This is
supposed to be a family friendly, relaxing time for us to get together as friends and
race competitively and have fun doing it.
I sincerely hope that I see all of you at all of the remaining races.
