The Waterline
Continued from page 5
I will run if that is the desire of the district. But if someone
else would like a shot at it, that is okay also. A new broom
sweeps clean. If you see me passing around a petition, I
guess that means I am running.
ICE-OUT HAS BEEN DECLARED THROUGHOUT THE
DISTRICT! (Well maybe not for Terry if I can channel Bob
Eucker here. He lives jusssssst a little outside the district.)
TIME TO HIT THE WATER.
Hope to see you all soon.
The Michigan Cup 2013
By Fred Siewert
District 2 Director
Things have been heating up here in Michigan, and it’s
not just the temperatures which have hovered in the upper
90’s. Mid-Michigan Electric Unlimiteds brought back “The
Michigan Cup” (known to some as one of the must attend
races of the year) after hosting smaller races for the past two
years. The Cup was held with open water on Thursday, June
27, 2013 and consisted of 15 classes split up over the course
of three days. There was a wide array of racers this year from
all over the country including New York, Ohio, Wisconsin,
Alabama, Florida, and Canada, resulting in a grand total of
36 racers and over 125 boats.
On Friday morning, we had an early start with a full belly
after breakfast was dished up by the Elks Club. We were
ready to race with 22 boats in P-Limited Offshore.
Later in the day, Mike Ball set a record busting time of
1:17.52 with his Q-Sport Hydro. Mike Paganelli then went
one better by setting his own record of 1:17.50 with Mike
Ball pitting for him. When they both saw the final times, I
heard, “Dude, you just pooped in my Cheerios!”
Friday’s day of racing was followed by a excellent fish
fry put on by the Elks Club.
In addition to record crowds, the Michigan Cup also
boasts a wide range of ages. Saturday started off with six
kids under 14 years of age sharing the drivers stand. Seeing
two sisters, Ava and Nina Paganelli battle it out for lane one
made us all realize the future of NAMBA is bright.
Later that night, 300 people gathered to watch an amazing
array of fireworks, once again courtesy of our hosts. The
night ended with most of the racers enjoying “Red Pops” and
stories on the deck. An amazing end to a busy day.
Excitement was in the air Sunday as the sun shined on the
last day of racing. The day seemed to fly by despite the 18
entries in P-Limited Mono. Spirits only kept building as
racers got to watch some of the fastest boats in Open Hydro.
The day concluded with the awards banquet where the
long awaited winners were revealed and are as follows.
