A few years ago, the CEO of the
corporation that my wife worked for
made a decision to buy another
company. This other company was filing
for bankruptcy, and had outdated
business processes. After the take over,
the CEO for my wife’s company made a
decision to adopt the business practices
and operational system of the other
company. I told my wife to start looking
for another job NOW. Your 55 year old
company is doomed. Well, one year later
the announcement was made that the
entire organization was filing for
bankruptcy and every employee was
going to lose their job. The bad decision
by the CEO resulted in 2500 people
looking for new jobs, and 2500 families
being forced to change.
In NAMBA, our District Directors,
our Vice President and our President do
not make a salary, but their decisions
will affect all of us. Make the right
choice when voting and make sure the
candidates are looking out for the best
interest of NAMBA.
Last Minute Notes
By Al Waters
NAMBA Executive Secretary
1. Everyone please vote for President
and Vice President.
2. Odd numbered district members,
please vote for District Director.
3. Use online capability for new and
renewal memberships.
4. Use the 2014 membership application
to insure timely receipt of your
membership card.
5. Single Event insurance is good one
time. Pay the difference for full
membership.
6. Children who race boats must be
NAMBA members. They are called
Juniors. And yes, they can vote.
7. Single Event list and NAMBA
membership lists are available to any
Contest Director or District Director at
any time. Just ask.
8. Reasons for not checking NAMBA
cards at an event. Can’t think of any.
9. Reasons for checking NAMBA cards
at an event. I want to keep my pond, my
home, my retirement, and not be
personally liable for anything that may
happen because I didn’t check NAMBA
membership cards.

Make the Right Vote
By Dave Rychalsky
NAMBA Historian Chairman
In any group, club, community,
and society, we follow a democracy
and cast our vote for a specific
candidate. Many people vote for the
person that has more of an appealing
appearance than the other guys. Some
vote for a person who “speaks” better
than the other candidate(s). Some
people make decisions based on the
opinion of their friends. When it
comes down to it, we should all make
our choice for a candidate based on
what the candidate believes in and
what that candidate can do for the betterment of the entire populous. In NAMBA, we
cast our votes for our district directors for the even numbered districts in the even
years and the odd numbered districts in the odd years. With this being 2013, District 1,
3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 19 will be voting for their respective district directors. In the odd
ending years, we are also voting for our President and Vice President. Every paid
member in NAMBA has the right to vote for President and Vice President, with
members living in odd numbered districts, voting for their respective District Director.
In many districts, only one person runs for director, and as such, there isn’t much of
a choice. The basic reason for this is that the District Director’s job is a time
consuming position which usually ends up being a thankless task. Many of us have
personal obligations and can not make the time to devote to the job, so others need to
step up. In any case, the membership should respect their District Director because he
is volunteering his time to help every member enjoy model boating. Our NAMBA
Board of Directors is supposed to do the same thing, but at a much higher magnitude.
This is something to keep in the back of your mind.
Whenever we have two or more candidates running for one position, a decision
needs to be made by every person. We have a choice! It would be fantastic if we had
1000 votes being cast in one of our elections. However, many people seem to think
that their ONE vote doesn’t matter and they fail to take 2 minutes to vote. Well, if you
don’t vote, then don’t complain. You are basically making the statement that you will
allow others to make the decisions for YOU, and when those decisions don’t follow
your wishes, you have no one to blame but yourself. In past presidential elections for
NAMBA, I chose to vote for the candidate that will not run the organization in a
manner which benefits him or his friends, but makes decisions for the BETTERMENT
of NAMBA. And secondly, those decisions are for the general populous to allow
NAMBA to grow in numbers and grow in character. Previous presidents of NAMBA,
Al Waters and Alan Hobbs, had to endure countless phone calls, countless e-mails,
countless letters from a variety of people on a variety of topics. I am friends with both
Al Waters and Alan Hobbs and many occasions I had the opportunity to listen to their
thoughts of topics that arose during their presidency. In every case, neither one made a
decision to help themselves or their friends. They made decisions for NAMBA. They
made decisions which helped promote model boating and helped NAMBA grow. This
is the key to any election. Vote for the candidate who makes decisions for the
organization, not decisions because a small group of boaters will benefit. One wrong
critical decision can bring an end to NAMBA, and we don’t want that.
In many organizations across America, each CEO can have a yearly salary in the
hundreds of thousands of dollars, and quite a few in the millions of dollars. Most of us
think that these guys don’t do any “real” work and definitely do not deserve that
money. Actually, their decisions affect the livelihood of each employee in their
organization, their spouses, and their children, so don’t kid yourself . They earn their
pay!
