October 2013
Grande Racer member Mike
Lynch donated a ready to fly
model airplane kit. These items
were all raffled off to the
children. The kids were genuinely
excited about their raffle
winnings. In fact, we’ve had
several join us back down at the
lake and show us their models.
We hope that this exposure for
these great companies will not
only aid them in name brand
recognition but most importantly
and hopefully draw children into
the wonderful world of radio
control.
We have two goals with the
West Texas Shootout for Autism Awareness. We really focus on doing our best to take
care of our racers and provide them and their families a great weekend. We provide
breakfast and lunch free of charge. We also make sure that our race program and
welcome packets show our thanks and gratitude to our sponsors. However, the most
important goal of our event is helping out the Autism Society by donating the proceeds
from our event. The Rio Grande Racers donate every penny of profit from this event to
the Autism Society of El Paso. In 2011 we were thrilled to donate $1,000. In 2012, we
were delighted to be able to donate $3,560. In 2013, we are ecstatic to announce that
we were able to donate $4,223.37 to the Autism Society of El Paso.
We have been blessed with an increase in growth each and every year. Our
sponsors see that we have continued to work diligently to provide a first class event
that gives their company positive exposure. Our sponsors also recognize that this event
is for an extremely worthy cause. We really hope that you will consider joining us in
2014. We are already working on the event and hope for it to be the best yet! The Rio
Grande Racers look forward to seeing you in El Paso!

Dale Roberts as he showed up ready to
redeem himself at our event. Dale
became the first two-time winner of this
award. Dale took 1st place in G1 Mono,
Open G Mono, G1 Catamaran and Team
Marathon. Dale also took 3rd place in
Open G Sport Hydro, 6th place in G1
Sport Hydro, 3rd place in G1 Rigger,
5th place in Open G Rigger and 3rd
place in Classic Thunderboat.
Dale also won the shootout trophies in
G1 Sport Hydro, Open G Sport Hydro
and Open G Rigger.
As dominating a performance as
Dale had, it wasn’t enough for District 7
to overcome District 19 in the D7 vs
D19 shootout for Army the Armadillo.
District 19 edged out District 7 by 13
points, 246 to 233. So, Army the
Armadillo stays in the possession of
District 19 for another year. District 7 is
fuming over it and will look forward to
bringing Army back home in 2014.
In conjunction with our event, the
Autism Society hosts their “Walk/Run
Event” at Ascarate Park the same
weekend we hold our race. So this year
we worked with many great companies
and gained their support so that we
could offer a “Kids-only-Raffle”. This
raffle was free to children with Autism
who participated in the “Walk/Run
Event”. Hobbico/Aquacraft donated
four ready to run electric model boats,
Team Associated donated a ready to run
SC18 short course truck, EZ Fly R/C
donated four ready to fly EZ Fly R/C
Helicopters, First Texas Products
donated two Bounty Hunter Jr. metal
detectors, TC Hobby’s donated two
ready to fly airplane kits and Rio
Father and son John Borden and John
