Once you are there, you can just park
your car and never need to leave for the
duration of the event because everything
you could want is already there!
Restaurants, bars, casinos, shopping and
of course the most beautiful pond you
ever raced a model boat on.
On Thursday, just about everyone
arrived to set up their pits and make the
final adjustments on their boats. In the
evening the local Irish pub hosted a
welcome party where most of the racers
and their families went to have a great
time!
After a short Driver Meeting on
Friday, we were off and racing! From
the elevated drivers area the view of the
course was amazing. Over the next two
and a half days of perfect weather, we
ran about 200 heats to determine who
would compete in the top six winner take
all final for each of the 10 classes.
Friday night Jim Feener and I, along
with a lot of help from our families,
hosted a cocktail party with an open bar
and appetizers. It was amazing how
many people showed up and had a fun
time. Jim furnished all of the adult
beverages and was our bartender for the
evening. With the help of his daughter,
Caitlin and my nephew, Seth everyone
got their fill!
The raffle was also amazing this year
with prizes being raffled off several
times every hour. While everyone won
many great items, Alan Terry from
Stockton, CA walked off with the most
including three Zenoah engines.
As part of the entry fee lunch was
provided every day for the racers and it
was fantastic as usual. Of course it
could be because my Mother, Lorrie
Stark did all of the cooking with the help
from many of the racers wives including
Jim Feener’s family and mine. We took
a lunch break on Sunday at noon and
then ran the final 10 heats.
The results from the weekend were as
follows:

World Cup Gas Race
By Russ Stark
NAMBA Gas Chairman
I say it every year, but this year was really the best World Cup race ever! We had
80 racers and 331 boats come in from all over the world and the United States. Sunset
Park, the home of the World Cup for the last seven years was under construction, so
we were forced to find an alternative location. After a lot of research from a few of the
Las Vegas locals, namely Brian Bounds and Jim Shipley, we found an amazing place.
The location is called Lake Las Vegas (www.lakelasvegas.com). It is a five star resort
located about 30 minutes off of the Las Vegas strip.

Awnings were lined up with plenty of room for parking and viewing the races
