Welcome JC Greenlee, Jim Osborne
and Ted McKay! We had more cross-
over racers at our event this year than
ever before, and it was great to have
their expertise and insight at our event.
Jay Stone was also in attendance, and he
helped fill in a few heats as CD for
Lenny Blake, and also did an excellent
job documenting our race with digital
photos and video. He really provided
“icing on the cake” for our event, and it
was great to have him there. Also, the
Holland family made an appearance as
well.
A few notables: Jim Osborne won
P-Sport Hydro with his newly build
Insane Sport Hydro! I guess we forgot to
throw him in the pond. Doug Peterson,
from Wisconsin, has a beautiful
Whiplash P-Ltd Sport Hydro hull and he
was able to comfortably win all six of
his rounds, attaining a perfect score of
2400 points. Dan Proulx, from
Minnesota, built a ML PS 295 OPC
tunnel just before our race, but you
would have never known it when seeing
it run. It was fast, smooth and it looked
like a breeze to drive. He also finished
the event with six wins, for a perfect
score of 2400 points.
Tony Heller, a regular at our WW
events, finished the weekend without
any need for Bondo! Congratulations,
Tony! I know you had this as your game
plan going into our event and you
conquered it in fine fashion! Tony also
won 1/6
th
Scale Jersey Skiff, a new class
a few FE racers are adding to their
racing program.

2012 Arizona Winter Warm-ups VIII
By David Newland
NAMBA Fast Electric Chairman
Every year during the last weekend in February, the Scottsdale Model Boaters put
on a FE event at the McKellips Pond in Scottsdale, AZ so guys that have frozen water
can come get some of their racing addiction fed. We attract racers from Ohio,
Minnesota, Wisconsin and Colorado. The event runs from Friday to Sunday, with
open water on Friday until 1:00, and then we push through four classes in the
afternoon. On Saturday and Sunday
we run the same classes on both days,
for a total of six rounds. We select
classes that are the most popular in
FE, so by the time our event is over,
the participants should have a very
good handle on their setups for the
upcoming race season.
By far, the most popular classes
are focused on the P-Ltd power
parameter. This is FE’s “spec” class.
We ran Hydro, Sport Hydro, Mono,
OPC, 1/10
th
Scale, Offshore,
Crackerbox and Jersey Skiff all under
this power parameter. We also ran a
few classes in the more powerful P
power parameter: Sport Hydro, Mono
and Offshore. Both of these power
parameters focus on a 4S Lipo Battery
(14.8 volts) for power, with the P-Ltd
setups hovering around the 60-70 amp
range and utilizing a single 5000 mAh
pack, and the P setups hovering
around 90-150 amp range and in most
cases paralleling up a pair of 5000
mAh packs.
