President’s Message
By Al Waters
NAMBA President
A lot has transpired this past year in NAMBA with the 40
th
anniversary of the
NAMBA Nationals for Nitro/Gas and the Fast Electrics NAMBA Nationals. Race
results and stories from model boaters are included in this issue of the
Propwash
along
with a lot of pictures. Not too many of the boats but a lot of pictures of the people,
functions, and fun that went on throughout the week. District 19 Director Russ Stark
and his committee went all out for this 40
th
anniversary event at Legg Lake in
California.
The Welcome Party was free for all of the race entrants, as well as the Steak at the
Lake BBQ, the paddleboat dinner at the host hotel, and the awards dinner banquet.
Now that is going all out! Every NAMBA Nationals I have been to since 1991 have
had their own creative unique way of doing something a little different than the others
and this is what District 19 bestowed upon the model boaters this year.
There was also the Fast Electric NAMBA Nationals held in Florida hosted by the
Wave Blasters Fast Electric Club. Be sure to read Ken Haines article as it sounded like
things went really well with some competition that carried over from last year’s Nats.
While on the subject of NAMBA Nationals, the dates and locations have been
determined for 2012. The FE NAMBA Nationals will be at Legg Lake in Southern
California hosted by the SoCal Fast Electrics and the Scottsdale Model Boaters. One of
NAMBA’s favorite sons race announcers will be on hand to make the call. Save the
dates of June 19
th
– 23
rd
, 2012 for this event.
The NAMBA Nationals for Nitro/Gas will be in District 11 with Rags Grenier and
Butch Thibodeau as your Contest Directors. The race location will be at the same spot
as the 2005 NAMBA Nats in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. Considering that their idea
of a steak BBQ is live main lobster and New Hampshire is the home of maple, this is a
can’t miss trip. So pencil in the dates of July 14
th
– 21
st
, 2012.
If you have gone to the NAMBA web site recently, you may notice some changes
on the cover page. I mentioned it in the previous
Propwash
and it has now become a
reality. Through the efforts of our Historian Chairman Dave Rychalsky and his
committee of Tracy Osborne (Rules Chairman) and yours truly, you can now view the
past NAMBA Nationals race programs and commemorative patches. It has been a very
long process scanning every page, making the necessary photo adjustments, and
converting to a format viewable for you. You can now look at the race programs the
same way you would read a magazine. Flip the pages, book mark your favorite spots,
