NAMBA Propwash 04-2023 Web.pub
PROPWASH 8 April 2023 I scanned all of the older Nats’ programs and emailed them to Al Waters last year so we have a decent set of our programs, but not all of them. Here is what we are looking for: PROGRAMS: 1977(Reno), 1979(Seaside), 1980(Tacoma), 1981(Amarillo), and 1988(Wichita). PINS: 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1984 and 2001. If anyone can recall if pins weren’t offered in the first 10 Nationals, I can pull those years off the list. In any case, someone has to have a 2001 pin from Manteca, CA. I fear people have tossed away much of the past Nationals programs, so obtaining these will eventually be futile. I doubt I’m the only nerd who keeps all of this, as well as every NAMBA Propwash that was mailed out!!! The missing pins and programs are basically all from Nationals over 25 years ago, so it’s going to be some of our ole time members who have these tucked away! If you know a member who stopped racing and possibly attended one of these Nationals, drop him / her a line and ask. For those that would like to donate their pin or program to the NAMBA National Historical Collection, please send to: Dave Rychalsky 17 Surrey Lane East Brunswick, NJ 08816 You can email me at daverychalsky@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance for your help. To Our Friend Lou ... By Eric Canto District 3 Director From the first day you made your appearance at the pond we knew we were in for a treat. Your lively spirit and eagerness to help the club was just the shot in the arm we needed to help us revive a struggling club. Although with you included, we were a small club with only four members we felt like the largest club in District 3. You always took the time to get things done or you knew someone who could get it done. We had a better chance of you connecting us with some- one other than an operator, Lol. No matter what this club needed, if you had it, you gave it. Never a hesitation to go above and beyond. Lou, you were one of a kind with your stories and wit. There was always a saying at the tip of your tongue for every situation. As our club grew you would always say how proud of us you were that we made it into what it has become today. Mr. Petrone, you are and will forever be missed by not only Broward Model Boat Club but by the members of District 3. We would like to leave you with one of our favorite Lou Petrone Quotes. “You lie and I’ll swear by it.” Till we meet again sir. Broward Model Boat Club April 2023 Safety Tip of the Day Anonymous Contributor We talk safety and we provide safety rules and guidelines for model boaters to follow to prevent fires, personal injuries and so forth. However, there are times where we all feel that it won’t happen to us. Charging a battery thinking that it will be okay to get that little extra out of it. Blowing out a gas engine that was dunked and not making sure the plug wire was far enough away from fuel splatters. Removing a prop and not using a towel or glove to protect the hand. And the one thing most aggravating to us all. Getting burned on the fore arm by a tuned pipe. You can be lectured and can be warned. However real photos tell it best. Throughout the year, photos of injuries are sent to the NAMBA office. Maybe the best medicine might be showing you those photos. Check out the colored version of the NAMBA Propwash if you want to see real some gruesomeness. In the mean time, be sure you know the location of the nearest medical facility at your race site and at a minimum, have a fully stocked first aid kit available. The cut in the picture above is located just below the left knee on the outside of the leg or maybe it was the right leg. It really looks pretty good after cleaning up the pool of blood that had laid all over the ground. It did involve a trip to the hospital and six stitches, and took him out of the points for the day. How did it happen you ask? Would you believe that it happened from a prop guard? How does a person get their leg that high off the ground?
