PROPWASH April 2023 13 News From District 3 By Eric Canto NAMBA District 3 Director Greetings from District 3!! I never thought a new racing season would start with a beheading. But that is exactly what happened. After Mark and Kim Grim made the long trip from their home in Alabama to South Florida, Kim Grim was driving in a heat of stock mono with Mark Grim calling for her. Kim was doing well in her heat in spite of the high winds. However, after a few laps her boat became erratic and difficult to control. She wisely brought the boat to the center of the course and shut it down. Kim was in for a surprise when the retrieve boat operator handed her crippled stock mono back to her. On the rudder was the fully intact, recently severed complete head of an iguana!!! As a testament to just how fast Kim’s boat was, it took a few tools to remove the head! Just weeks later, racers watched as their boats sped by the large alligators soaking up the Florida sun on the banks of the back stretch at the Super Boat Shoot Out! With luck, our wildlife will not pose any issues for the inaugural season of our new FE/Nitro series which, tongue in cheek, is named Gas Relief! The first race in this series will be held May 27-28 and is hosted by the Brandon Model Boaters. We are excited to advance electric and nitro racing in District 3! We are also inspired by District 19 implementing the use of transponders and the idea seems to have real support in District 3. We will continue to watch and see how this develops. Here we GROW AGAIN! District 3 is very pleased to welcome K.W.S. Racing RC! Headed up by President Michael Blanco, this club is off to a fast start with a strong showing of racers representing the club at our first district race of the year. These guys run in saltwater but you can’t tell that by looking at their boats. They are clean, well maintained, and fast.
