April 2022 Propwash Web

I was able to attend our Presidents Dinner and the Awards Banquet. I was truly grateful to be in attendance, as they were both incredible events. A few months after the nationals we held our year end district meeting in Laughlin Nevada. We had plenty to discuss with fifteen rule proposals submitted and a race schedule to finalize. Our 2022 District Points Championship Series will consist of eight races with three in Arizona and California and two in Nevada. Our first race will be at Lake Havasu, and we will finish our season at Sunset Park in Las Vegas. So far, we have two races completed with a first-time winner at each one of our events. The London Bridge Model Boat Club hosted our first event of 2022. We had 143 boats entered and as always Jim Foster and his crew did an amazing job from the meet and greet to the raffles, the cool shirts and the great awards. This club always starts our year off right. Our first time District 19 winner of 2022 happened at this race. Congratulations to Carsin Terpstra for winning G-Ltd Catamaran with 1500 points! President’s Message ( Continued from page 1) As we always do in NAMBA, our membership came together to provide an outstanding race for those in attendance with social events like no other. I want to thank everyone who attended and most importantly those who made it happen! Our next three NAMBA Nationals have been set and the fourth is being finalized. The 2022 NAMBA Nationals will be held in District 9 at Roberts Lake in beautiful Seaside, California. The Central Coast Model Boaters will be hosting this event and it represents the 50th Anniversary of our very first NAMBA Nationals. Go to 50nats.com for more information. Our 2023 NAMBA Nationals will be in District 5 at Brahan Spring Park in Huntsville ,Alabama. We look forward to NAMBA in 2022! If there’s only one thing I ask of you, it’s get involved! Help your local club, communicate, and support your district director and most important be a positive member. You’ll be surprised how much we can grow together. NAMBA is our members working with and for each other. I hope to see you in Seaside. News From 19 By Richard Romero District 19 Director With our 2020 racing season being cut short and no racing at all in 2021, I’m very excited to see what 2022 has in store for our district. We finished last year with our 2021 NAMBA Nationals being held in our district. It was NAMBA’s 50th Nationals and was truly a special event. NAMBA hosted the event, but the members of the Nationals Committee were from District 19 along with NAMBA President Alan Hobbs. There were many challenges the committee had to deal with, but they worked together and were able to overcome them. I would like to thank my District 19 members that played a major role in making this event possible. Tracy Osborne had her hands in almost every aspect of this race. This event would not have been possible without her. Tracy, you are truly amazing! I want to thank, Al Waters, Jim Osborne, Steve Lopez, Rey Garcia and of course our leader Alan Hobbs. The 2021 Nationals were cut short for me. On the first day of racing, I had received a call that I needed to rush home to care for my mother. Let me tell you, I was off to an amazing start with five first place finishes and a national record. I wasn’t ready to go. Besides the racing, I played a major part in this event. I gathered my thoughts and met with my fellow committee members. What happened next blew me away. Within a few minutes of the initial conversation, I witnessed Mark Anderson, Eric Bourlet, Mark Grim, Chris Wittrig, Karl Loveless and others rally together to take over my obligations so I could leave with little to no worries. I have seen many great acts of kindness in this hobby, but I will never forget this one. All I can say is I appreciate each one of you and Thank You. I returned home to find my mother recovering and stable. I stayed with her for a couple days only to have her tell me that I looked like a sad puppy that lost its favorite toy. A few minutes after her comment she ordered me to drive back to go play with my friends and our toy boats, so did. PROPWASH 2 April 2022 In 2020 at this same race site, Jeff Polan won Open Oval and some how slipped away without taking his dip in to the lake. This made Carsin happy as he didn’t have to get wet alone. Our second race of 2022 took place in Las Vegas. It was hosted by Sin City Racing. We had 147 boats entered and a good time was had by all. Brian Bounds put on a great race. And I must say that I can’t remember having that much fun at race in a very long time. Great job Brian! This event produced another first-time winner with Peyton Hilton winning GX-2 Outrigger with 1500 points. Congratulations Peyton!
