PROPWASH October 2021 5 Cómo se dice NAMBA en Español By Al Waters NAMBA Secretary And I do not know if I even said that correctly so I do apologize if I messed up. Where I am going with this is that we have quite a few members in NAMBA who are bilingual. It was brought to my attention that there is a need for our NAMBA rule book to have a Spanish version as well as the English version. I contacted the local college university bilingual professors and online software programs to see what we could accomplish. I also contacted NAMBA District 13 Director Rey Medina to get his thoughts. The biggest concern we had was the dialect changes that occur moving from district to district. We started the project with the NAMBA brochure. Using conversion software (I could not get any help from the local universities), I sent Rey Medina a NAMBA brochure in Spanish. He in turn went to some of his members to make corrections. A lot of changes were made but we came up with a final product. How can we take the NAMBA rule book and convert to Spanish, know which members to distribute to, mail out rule book updates and such is something we are trying to figure out. In the mean time, the NAMBA brochure Spanish version is available on the NAMBA web site for download. Better yet, contact your district director and he can have them printed on glossy paper using his districts NAMBA allotted promotional allowance resulting in no charge to you or your club. The NAMBA brochure is a great tool to have on hand when coming across people interested in model boating. You can now give them the version most comfortable for them. PINS: 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1984. I don’t know if all years offered pins, but I think many of these Nationals did offer them, so they could be out there. Many of the racers sew the patches on their aprons, and put their pins on their caps. I’ve been trying to get Alan Hobbs to open a NAMBA Hall of Fame building, just like the one in Cooperstown, NY (MLB), Canton Ohio (NFL), Toronto (NHL), or Springfield, Massachusetts (NBA). It can house some of the old engines, boats, radios, as well as the Banner, the Pins and Programs. There can be videos of some exciting races over the years. And now, with the onset of the drone cameras, we have plenty of action videos of heat racing while the drone hovers a few feet above the water! I told Alan I would donate a rocking chair for him to sit there and be the museum curator as hundreds of people come in daily and peruse through our paraphernalia. The missing pins, patches, and programs are all from nationals over 25 years ago, so it’s going to be some of our ole time members who have these tucked away! If you know a member who stopped racing and possibly attended one of these Nationals, drop him / her a line and ask. For those that would like to donate their patch, pin or program to the NAMBA National Historical Collection, please send to: Dave Rychalsky 17 Surrey Lane East Brunswick, NJ 08816 You can email me at daverychalsky@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance for your help.
