PROPWASH 12 October 2021 News @ 9 Missing Friends But Back to Racing (Continued from page 11) Our last event before a break for the Nationals featured a brand new site which is something you don’t often hear about. San Joaquin River Racers, a new club to District 9, hosted their inaugural event at the San Joaquin River Club in Tracy, California. This event would have never occurred but for the effort and sheer determination of District 9 member Joe Lawrence. He rallied the community and their Board of Directors to get approval for use of the pond that exists in the middle of their residential community for monthly test days and two events in a year. They not only allowed for Joe to perform site improve- ments, but participated themselves in those improvements. Joe built an amazing driver’s stand with the assistance of his family and Allen and Kerry Cordy, with the community allowing him to store it on site. The event itself had the largest attendance of the season and why not? The community was selling breakfast, lunch, and dinner; delivering the meals; rolling around selling ice cream from a golf cart; had RV sites with full hookups available; and the restaurant/bar was the perfect way to wind up a day of racing. District 9 looks forward to future events at this new site. The return to racing also saw the return of our membership growing program Arrive & Drive. After taking a little time to freshen up a few components of the ProMarine Phantoms used in this program with parts provided by Micheal Stancombe we were able to welcome a mix of six adults and kids to the fun, or running radio-controlled boats and, perhaps, a few of them in to long term members. The existence of this program has been a great conversation starter when spectators arrive and demonstrates our focus on providing ways to easily enter the hobby for those people who may be interested. The last event of the 2021 season will be our annual Toys for Tots charity race where entries are paid either by bringing toys or with regular entry fee proceeds, along with any other donations, going directly to Toys for Tots. This year the event is being held at the new race location at San Joaquin River Club and the idea of rallying an entire community into this donation opportunity is very exciting. If you’d like to contribute to this charitable event, please contact Paul Martin by email at blown1956@gmail.com. This is an election year for President, Vice President, and odd numbered Districts which includes District 9. This will be my last article as District 9 Director as I will be moving out of the District and handing off this role to my successor. It’s been my honor to serve the members of District 9 as their Director. Together we achieved great things and the District is well positioned for continued success. Wishing everybody a safe return to racing!
