NAMBA March 2021 Web
DON’T MISS THIS NAMBA EVENT (Continued from page 17) We need an accurate count so that we have enough food there for everyone. Make certain to buy any additional banquet tickets you need when you send in your entry. To get into the social events, tickets will be required. Please take care of your tickets and have them on hand when needed. There will be enough cash bars at the President’s Dinner and Awards Banquet to eliminate any long lines. I can assure you that there will be some high end liquid refreshments at the cash bars. We intend to meet your high expectations. The 50th NAMBA NATS raffle will be beyond imagination. There will be more engines, more radios, more boats and more specialty items than you could expect. We can honestly say that there will be thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of nice raffle prizes. When you win, you will not be winning a gift cer- tificate; you will be handed an expensive product to take home. In addition, if you enter this event before May 1, you will receive 2 free raffle tickets. Entries will close June 30, so do not wait to decide which classes you want to run. If you must cancel any classes, we will accept and refund cancellations made by June 30. Please remember that this is not a local or District Event. NAMBA National rules will be in effect. Boats running in specification classes will be subject to inspection. Those boats not meeting the specifications will be disqualified. If you have any questions, please refer to the NAMBA Rulebook at NAMBA.com . It requires 5 entries to make a class. That means 5 boats on the starting tables, ready to run in the first heat. If you enter a class to make 5 boats but then do not show up to the start with a boat ready to race, the others who did enter and are ready to race will not be competing in a championship class. Do not enter a class that you do not intend to run. If you enter an event that does not draw 5 entries, you will be notified and your money will be refunded. This will be an historic NAMBA event. People who were not involved with NAMBA 20 years ago or more, will learn a lot about the people who created our organization, what was involved and how NAMBA has grown over the past 50 years. You might have heard their names, this will be a time to see photos of the people that did so much to create NAMBA and gave us the opportunity to run and race our model boats. YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS NAMBA EVENT! Liability and Accident Coverage By Alan Hobbs NAMBA President Thirty years ago, NAMBA members had liability insurance but very little information concerning the company or coverage. During the 1990’s NAMBA changed the way we purchased insurance coverage, working directly with the insurance company instead of going through a third person. We were able to get a quote from Travelers Insurance, one of the largest insurance companies in North America and got the proper coverage for both the USA and Canada. We started working with Travelers, adjusting the coverage over time until we had our current liability coverage. Here is an explanation of NAMBA insurance coverage and some examples. This explanation is not complete but a simple presentation to the membership concerning NAMBA insurance. The liability insurance is “primary” insurance. Your homeowner insurance is not required to pay a certain amount before the NAMBA insurance is involved. As a NAMBA member, you are covered by liability insurance in the case that your boat hurts someone or damages someone’s property. As an example, if you lose control of your boat and it runs up on shore and hurts someone, there is liability coverage for up to $1 million. The aggregate liability coverage for NAMBA is $2 million in a year. PROPWASH 26 March 2021 Spring Proposal Voting There is a proposal on page 28 to vote on that is very important. A lot of hard work was put in to it to clear up 1/8th Scale Unlimited power for Fast Electrics. This was a joint effort with NAMBA FE Chairman Brian Buaas, District 8 and District 7. You will be notified through the NAMBA membership portal to vote after you receive this newsletter. You can also log in to your account to vote or e-mail your vote to namba@cox.net . Please participate in the voting process. If you are unfamiliar with the proposal, do a little research to make an informed vote. If you are at a model boating event sponsored by an organization other than NAMBA, NAMBA insurance is not in effect. If you are testing your boats alone and have an accident, the coverage is not in effect. This liability insurance also provides up to $100,000 coverage for damage to premises rented caused at a NAMBA boating event. As an example, you lose control of your boat, it runs up on the shore and pokes a hole in a building that is part of the area you rented to hold the NAMBA event. Please remember, use common sense while running your boats. Obey the NAMBA Safety rules. Do not run your boats if a spectator is in the water, hanging their legs over the edge of the water, or floating by on an inflatable. Do not run your boats if there is a dog playing in the water. Our boats today are fast enough to seriously harm someone. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask and remember that safety is always the first concern.
