(Continued from page 7) 6. David Baker discussed with the group the state of all the scale classes and some changes that he would like to be made as scale chairman. The group felt he should work during the off season with those interested in scale and come up with plans as to what they would like to do moving forward and report back to the group. 7. John Borden and David brought up the fact that many of our racers are approaching their senior years and that our races are sometimes quite a distance form emergency medical care. That being the case it was felt that the district should look into the possibility of purchasing a portable defibrillator and having people trained in its use to be onsite at our events. Most felt this was a good idea. John Borden volunteered to take this on as a project and see if we can come up with a way to fund it and make it happen. I have enjoyed being your District Director for the last six years and think I have had the support of most of you. But, I feel it is time for me to step down and let someone else take over the rains. Someone with new and fresh ideas and renewed enthusiasm. David Wale has decided to step up and take on that role. I hope you will give him the same support and cooperation you have given me over the years. I look forward to seeing each and everyone of you at the races next year. PROPWASH 8 April 2020 West Coast SAW Pond By Lohring Miller NAMBA Safety Chairman Since straight line events have stopped being held at Legg Lake, I have been looking for a suitable place to hold an event on the west coast. We have held oval time trials in the Pacific Northwest for years, but our straight line pond is too short for modern boat speeds. Ski enthusiasts have more money than model boat racers, and they have built some great slalom ski ponds. I was fortunate to be put in contact with two of these pond owners. Our club ran on one of these ponds as a demonstration, but their club schedule is very busy. A second pond holds tournaments several times a year, but is often open otherwise. The owner is very interested in having one or two model boat events there a year. The pond is over 1800 feet long by 160 feet wide with a 250 ft diameter turnaround at each end. It is very sheltered and the surface is smooth even in a wind. There are direct flights into nearby Medford from several cities. I have Banner SM 30 lasers and sensors that plug into a laptop timing system. We are in the process of finding a surveyor to set up the time traps. I hope we can have our first event in the fall. The pond is at 234 W Dutton Rd, Eagle Point Oregon. You can see the video of a ski event at https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLxxhD44beI To the right are pictures.
