Editors note: This article was received while the Propwash was in print so it remains in current form to protect its timing and authenticity. Hello to All! It is getting close to the end of the racing season and the Texas/New Mexico Point Series. There are only two races left. Carlsbad, New Mexico on September 7th and 8th. And the finals in San Angelo, Texas on October 5th and 6th which is being hosted by the Lone Star Model Boat Club (Houston) this year. With the exception of Carlsbad, all of our races have had close to 100 or more boats entered. The weather has cooperated and all the races have come off without a hitch. The race that was put on in Carlsbad by the Rio Grande Racers had a very light turn out. But everyone that attended had a great time I was told. I can not say first hand as I was not able to attend. The race September 7th and 8th is being put on by the Odessa club. They desperately need your help. I would hate to lose this site due to low attendance so please support this race and make every effort to attend. I am a little hypocritical in saying this, as I again will not be able to attend. I am having a pretty invasive heart procedure on August 29th and will not be up to attending. I was reviewing the points and it looks like mathematically there is not a single class that is set in stone at this point. Most will go down to the Double Points Final in San Angelo on October 5th and 6th. We should have a good turn out. This is always a great race, a beautiful site and the fall weather should be great. Looking forward to seeing everyone there. The Flying Dutchmen club did a great job and a good time was had by all at their race. The weather was little hot, but I can’t remember the last time we had water that slick. There were about 125 boats entered with somewhere around 100 actually showing up. This brings me to a couple of issues that came up at this race that I need to address. The first is an incident where one individual wanted to come in a day early and set up his RV at the site. When he asked the Contest Director he was told that they did not have the site reserved for that time and that he would have to check with the city. I guess this individual did not like the answer he got or that the Contest Director was not moving fast enough to suit him. So, he decided to go around the Contest Director and call the city parks department himself. This raised a red flag as normally no one is allowed to camp in the park. It nearly resulted in no one being able to camp at the site at all. The Contest Director had to explain to the city what were doing and why we needed people to be able to stay on the site. After much negotiating, he was able to convince the city to allow us to camp on site for this event only. Whether or not we will be able to camp at this site for future events is now very (Continued on page 10 2020 NAMBA Nationals By The Huntsville Model Boaters Well it’s that time to start making plans and thinking about next year’s 2020 NAMBA Nationals . Dates: Saturday October 17th through Saturday, October 24 of 2020. Set up will begin on Wednesday, October14th with open water on Thursday and Friday October 15th and 16th. The Nationals will be held in Huntsville, Alabama at beautiful Brahan Springs Park, located right next to the Huntsville Aquatic Center. The city is having a brand new driver’s stand built for the Huntsville Model Boaters as we speak, which should accommodate the NAMBA Nationals very well. The park is also making some beautification changes around the lake. We have a great group of club members and volunteer’s already working on the specifics of the nationals. Several food trucks have been contacted so we should have food of many flavors to be shared by all. So, bring your hungry! A website is in the process of being built along with a Facebook page to keep you updated on the progress and race festivities. As we get closer to the date, we will have information on host hotel and lodging’s around the area along with some great places to see like the Space and Rocket Center and great places to eat … like BBQ! Huntsville Model Boaters look forward to seeing everyone at the 2020 NAMBA Nationals. Come join us for the racing and comradery!
