With 2018 in the books I would like to congratulate our Class Winners: There are so many members behind the scenes that make our district run, like Tracy Osborne and my Assistant District Director Steve Lopez. Tracy is truly the backbone of our district, she always keeps Steve and I in line and our finances straight. Tracy was inducted into the NAMBA Hall of Fame at the 2018 NAMBA Nationals. Congratulations Tracy! Steve is an amazing guy providing our hobby with some of the best products on the market. When a boater is struggling or needs some help, Steve is always there. Its Steve’s passion for our hobby and its members that I appreciate the most about him. With 2018 behind us and looking forward a week to our first race of the year, it appears we are off to another great start. With a week left of open registration we currently have 51 drivers and 215 boats entered. This race will be held by the London Bridge Model Boat Club in sunny Lake Havasu, Arizona. With the addition of the G-Ltd class rules to NAMBA we in District 19 will be offering G-Ltd Mono, G-Ltd Catamaran, G-Ltd Crackerbox and G-Ltd Sport Hydro. We have also adopted a district rule that states “it takes only three G-Ltd entries to make the class”. This is will help us spark interest in these classes as it did a few years back with our Sportsman Mono classes. So far, we have 11 G-Ltd Catamarans, 3 G-Ltd Crackerboxes, 18 G-Ltd Mono’s and 8 G-Ltd Sport Hydro’s entered for our first race. I had figured this would negatively impact our Sportsman Mono class offered on Saturday, boy was I wrong. We currently have 16 entered. I have a feeling the G-Ltd classes are going to take off across the country helping us attract new members that want to be competitive, whether its cruising around the pond or mixing it up racing. These classes give them an option without breaking the bank. Don’t forget to sign up for this years NAMBA Nationals held by District 20 at Decker Lake in West Valley City, Utah. See you at the pond News From 19 By Richard Romero NAMBA Vice President/ District 19 Director It was a great year of racing in our district with many new faces at the local club and district races! We are very fortunate to have some amazing members that head up our local clubs, scheduling test and tune days and monthly races. This type of hard work and love for the hobby proved that our membership growth begins at the club level. In 2018 District 19 had a 18% increase in memberships taking us over the 300 member mark. Thank you and your clubs for all you do!
