Editors Note: Many districts have specific rules and operate in a way that works best for them and protects the clubs and their members. The following is from the District 7 year end meeting. At the district finals we held our annual district meeting. It was held during the lunch period on Saturday. Due to time limitations, it was kept short and sweet. However, we did address all items that had been presented. The first item was an amendment to District Rule B2. It was voted on and passed as follows: The entry deadline for the races will be 9:00 PM in the time zone of the hosting club location on Monday, preceding the race. Entries received after that date may be allowed, but will be assessed a late fee of $5.00 for the first boat and $2.50 for each subsequent boat. It was discussed that Rule B8 had not been enforced in the past and that it should be strictly enforced moving forward. It states that any racer that enters an event and does not make arrangements for cancellation of race entry prior to the entry deadline, will be required to pay for their entry. Failure to pay entry fee whether racer is in attendance or not, will result in racer not being allowed enter any further District 7 events in the future without previous fees being paid for and new entry being prepaid in full. Failure to pay will also result in entrant losing all points in the District Championship Series until fees are paid. Both Rule B2 and B8 must be disclosed on the entry form or documents. It was once again brought up and discussed that we remove the Electric and Nitro from the Open Class and go back to our G Open Rules which only allow gas engines. It was brought to a vote but failed with only two votes cast for going back and ten votes for staying as we are. We will continue to allow Nitro and Electrics to run in Open. If three or more Electrics or Nitro are entered in the Open Class, they will be separated out and run in their own class. Some feel that the Electrics have and advantage as they do not appear to have any limiting factors. Both Nitro and Gas have limiting factors that the Electrics do not giving them an unfair advantage. Oscar Love is going to work with the Electric faction to come up with a solution. District Rule C13 has had some confusion as to its intent and was clarified to read as follows: All district heat races will use the a half/full course mill option. All boats launched and or re-launched, are required to head down the front straight of the course out of racing lanes and complete (1) full lap. Upon completion of one full lap, you then have the option of milling the full course or half course. One of the issues we have had the last couple of years is the loss of races due to weather and other unforeseen circum- stances. When this happens the clubs involved have no way of recovering their expenses and are sometime left with trophy costs and pond fees. Several ideas were discussed as to how we handle this. After much discussion about additional fees, funds etcetera, no one solution seemed to stand out. Each had some merit and some distractions. It was felt that the district did not currently have the tools and rules to administer such a program. For the time being we will handle each issue on an individual basis. All agreed that any club losing a race due to unforeseen circumstances be given the option to host the District Finals in San Angelo to recoup some of their costs. There being no other items brought up for consideration the meeting was adjourned. It was now time to work on the 2018 NAMBA Lone Star Nationals hosted by the Dallas RC Thunderboats. News From District 7 By Jerry Wright NAMBA District 7 Director Another year of 2017 racing is now in the books. It was a good year for our District. We had over 100 boats at nearly all of our races with the finals in Dallas, Texas approaching 150 boats. With many people stepping up to make things happen all of our races came off great with few problems. The exception being the San Antonio race which had to be canceled due to weather. The El Paso race had to be moved due to pond issues and was held in Carlsbad, New Mexico. It was great to see the Dallas club allow the San Antonio club to step in and share the finals in Dallas. It allowed them to recuperate some of their loses. Several members of District 7 participated in the 2017 NAMBA Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a first class event and all who went had a great time. Our presence was made known with several of our members on the podium and several earning a National Champion title. Congratulations to all of them also: The Gas Team Marathon was won by Team Insane which included two District 7 members: Drivers - Dale Roberts (D-7) and Steve Lopez (D-19).
