Our podcast can be heard on otc.podbean.com with new episodes airing every Sunday at 3pm. We just released episode 10 the end of February and to date we have had almost 2000 downloads. Check out our Facebook page for pictures, videos, updates, and of course Jay’s awesome episode which covers the outlining our next shows guests. Enough of the NAMBA business. I would like to share a little bit about myself. For those of you that don’t know me, I live in Tucson, Arizona and have been a member of the Tucson Model Boat Club since the late nineties. I married my wife Kristi a year after I started boating and she is still putting up with me and this crazy hobby we all love. I have two beautiful daughters. Autumn, who just turned 16 and Jordan who will turn 24 this year. Both want nothing to do with RC boats because it is just not that cool….. What do they know, right? In 1997 I traded some mechanical work for a Prather Lap Cat II with a K&B 7.5 outboard. I did a little research and headed to our local pond, Archer Lake. When I arrived at the pond I was greeted by Gary Peterson and Karl Morse. These two guys couldn’t have been nicer even as they told me that I had it all wrong. The servos should be in the radio box not mounted to the top of it. They sent me home with a game plan and some parts. The following Sunday I returned to the pond and there they were as they promised. Ready to help and make sure I had what I needed to succeed in this hobby. It was that positive reinforcement and commitment that I was shown by others that has stuck with me today as I do my best to continue to pay it forward. As I began learning more about the hull designs and how they handled, I was drawn more in to the tunnel classes. Over the next few years I my collection of tunnels grew to include everything from stock 3.5 tunnels to the 13cc mod class tunnels. News From District 19 (Continued from page 25) work and dedication to our district. Once the award presentations were over we passed the mic to Russ Stark so he could MC our gift giving game. It’s always a blast and Russ is the right person for the job. As you can see, 2017 was a wonderful year for our district. We had many highs and some lows. We saw some new people come into our hobby and we made some new friends. The best part was NO raccoons where hurt during any of last year’s events. (inside joke). As I look back at the amazing year 2017 was for my district, I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for all of us! Vice President’s Message By Richard Romero NAMBA Vice President My name is Richard Romero and I am your new NAMBA Vice President and District 19 Director. I would like to start by saying “Thank You” to our past President and Vice President Russ Stark and Mark Grim. I have spent most of my boating years racing with these two fine gentleman. They have taught me many things on and off the water. Thank you Russ and Mark for your commitment and dedication to NAMBA and its members. I would like to welcome back to the hot seat Mr. Alan Hobbs as our new NAMBA President. I have known Alan for many years and I am truly excited to work with him. 2018 is off to a great start as we have already implemented our NAMBA Member Conduct Rule. This rule was originally written by me and Tracy Osborne with some help from an attorney friend of mine. Throughout the draft process I was in contact with Al Waters and Russ Stark as they helped me to understand NAMBA’s not-for-profit status in the state of California. Once it was completed, I then passed it on to Tracy so she could work her magic cleaning up the verbiage so we could vote on it at our District 19 year end meeting. I had originally planned to vote on it as a district rule, which we did, and it passed but we knew it was not only needed at a district level but at the national level too. Mr. Hobbs embraced our first proposal and in typical Alan Hobbs fashion, decided we can make it better, and we did. Mr. Hobbs and I requested the help of our NAMBA Board of Directors. We made some corrections. Tracy and Al Waters made sure the format was correct and we were able to get it passed through our Board of Directors to be implemented for the 2018 season. Task number one done and, in the books…. Our next task is improving our hobbies visibility with the use of social media, online marketing/goods and updating our brand image. One of the ways we are increasing our hobbies visibility is a weekly podcast. Jay Stone from District 7, the mastermind and creator behind On the Clock Podcast reached out to Karl Loveless (District 20 Director) and myself and asked if we wanted to be apart of it, and of course we both jumped at it. Jay puts together our interviews and questions for racers and manufacturers across the country in both NAMBA and IMPBA. We have our segments like “Road Trippin” with Karl Loveless where Karl talks about upcoming races, finishes, and new records set. We have a list of silly questions that we ask our main guests and now have an excellent group of sponsors.
