President’s Message By Alan Hobbs NAMBA President First, I want to thank the NAMBA members who showed faith and trust in me to do the job. There is quite a bit in front of us, but I am positive that together we can get it done. I also want to thank the current Board of Directors. We have been busy the past several weeks and have accomplished quite a bit. The next four NAMBA National Championships are scheduled. In 2018, the Nats will be held in District 7 by the Dallas, Texas area members. You will find more information concerning the 2018 NAMBA Nats in this copy of the newsletter. I hope you will be there. District 20 will host the 2019 NAMBA Nats. The 2020 NAMBA Nats will be held in Huntsville, Alabama. In 2021, the 50th NAMBA Nats will be held at Legg Lake. This event will be as much a celebration as it will be a racing event. Even if you do not enter a boat, you will want to be at all the social events of the 50th NAMBA Nats. District 19 hosted the 2017 NAMBA Nats in Las Vegas. Truly a great Nats! Mother Nature cooperated by providing excellent weather throughout the week. There was a lot of good racing and the host hotel provided very nice facilities for social events and get-togethers. My thanks to District 19 for an excellent week. Over the years, most CD’s have not had to face any unsportsmanlike behavior at their races. However, there have been a few instances where a NAMBA member behaved quite badly. The Board of Directors has approved a new set of rules that spells out what defines unsportsmanlike behavior and what a CD is required to do to control bad behavior. These rules are in place, effective January 1, 2018. They are part of the rule book section on the NAMBA website. These rules are in place not to penalize anyone, but to protect everyone. We have a new position in place: Nitro Chairman. Mark Grim has agreed to fill this position. Mark is an avid competitor and has been instrumental in furthering NAMBA records and racing. If you have a question concerning any Nitro classes or engines, Mark is the person to help you out. Micheal Stancombe has been appointed District Director for NAMBA District 4. Micheal is an avid FE racer and brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the position. Looking down the road, we have a lot to do concerning membership growth. Along with Vice President Richard Romero and the Board of Directors, we will begin programs designed to draw interest in model boating and NAMBA in particular.
