4. Motor, ESC, and Battery temperatures were recorded before each test run and tests were run using consistent temperatures of +/- 2 degrees in most cases. 5. Temperatures were taken on the motor end bells, ESC power board, and battery end near the wires. I used the same locations for each test. 6. Each engine pull was 6-7 seconds. 7. They make it easy for beginners to pick from well proven equipment and build fun racing boats at a reasonable cost. Limiting battery voltage alone encourages high cost, high current motors. The unlimited P boats probably have 3 or more times the power of the limited boats. By limiting the motor, the limited classes provide great racing with limited electric experience. The tested P limited motors have around 1.6 output hp at 20,000 t0 23,000 rpm. As a contrast the OS 3.5 outboard has 1.28 hp at 25,000 rpm. However, some of the originally specified motors are being discontinued. What is the direction the class rules should take? Darin Jordan did an extensive series of tests to research this issue.
