Now for the best part. In working with David Santistevan, our NAMBA I.T. Chairman, he is going to design a NAMBA Record Shield Application portal page. Here is how it will work. An applicant will continue to fill out the Record Application Form and mail to the address on the form as in years past. However, if a record shield is requested the applicant would go to the NAMBA web site Record Shield Application page (no log in required) and fill in their NAMBA number. All of their information needed would automatically populate. They would fill in basic information like FE, Gas, or Nitro and the hull class. That’s it. The NAMBA office would verify the information on the record setter on the NAMBA records page and place the order when paid. Paid??? Pretty simple. When the applicant has completed the necessary information, they would be sent to the Payment page where they can select Mail a Check, Pay by Credit Card over the Telephone, or Pay by PayPal. The same method used to take care of memberships, site insurances, and club renewals. If all goes as planned, the NAMBA Record Shield Application page should be ready for all of those records that will be set and or broken at the 2017 NAMBA Nationals for FE, Gas and Nitro at Sunset Park in Las Vegas, Nevada October 21-28, 2017. Record Shields Update By Al Waters NAMBA Executive Secretary Between the cost of engraving the NAMBA shields that are issued for speed records, mailing the shields, and the untimeliness of the trophy shop used, those who have been receiving record shields, have justifiably not been the happiest of NAMBA members. With Kim and Mark Grim, our NAMBA Awards and Records Chairpersons relocating to Alabama this year, that added to the difficulty they were already working under. Kim was always trying to balance the books and make an award shield cost, match the $10.00 received for the shield by an applicant. Its just not possible. We talked about raising the cost to the record setter from $10.00 to $15.00 however we agreed that no one would probably want a record shield. So our quest was to locate a trophy shop who could replicate the NAMBA logo (which was the toughest problem), and complete the job on a timely basis whether we want a dozen shields engraved or one shield. I would like to say that we have been successful. When a record shield has been applied for, the application process will now go through the NAMBA office. The record application will continue to go through Mark and or Kim Grim. If in doubt, just follow the directions on the Record Application. Once the request for a shield goes to the NAMBA office, it should take a week and a half to process the engraving followed by our beloved United States Post Office delivering to your mail box within a couple of days.
