The Waterline - The Newsletter of District 11 New England By Rags Grenier NAMBA District 11 Director Editors Note: Rags Grenier sends out on a regular basis a “Waterline” newsletter by e-mail to all members in District 11. The following are excerpts from his most recent newsletters. Rollinsford, New Hampshire: It seems that the Rollinsford race was just a couple of weeks ago and I am thinking, "Aw, I've got a ton of time to do a newsletter before the next race!". Well, here it is just a couple of days away! Not sure where this summer has gone, but it is passing way too fast. Rollinsford was a bit of a bright spot of late with 24 boats in 7 classes. I think for the first time ever, we ran an official "P" Catamaran class with four new (new to us) racers in Steve and Anthony Vaccaro, Luis Oquendo and Brian Archambeault. I hope that they had a good time and will return to more races in the future. We did get a little lucky with the usual summer wedding parties nearby at the race site as there were TWO weddings back to back. The second wedding using the gazebo for the actual ceremony and hosting the reception right next to it! I believe we ran the last heat of the day in between the few moments we had between the two events. It worked out just fine. I don't recall any particular tragedies (read: collisions) on the course. Everyone was very fast and competitive. Back-to-back heats were at a minimum because of the number of entrants which resulted no pit man issues. We did seem to go through more than the usual amount of buoys despite being attached to the weights by an elastic band. My thanks to Butch Thibodeau for all his help in setting up the course among his other duties like getting Dunkin Donuts coffee! Thanks to all for manning the retrieve boat in a timely manner and helping out. Sanford, Maine: We have an opportunity to regain a little of the summer spirit at Race #3 of the 2017 season at Sanford, Maine. This will be Rick Cote's first race as the new President of the Wake Makers Club RC Boat Club. So let's make him feel welcome at his own race by doing what we do best by having a good time! Usual rules apply. 30 second clock, 5 laps, and so on. Hope to see you all there. Elections: Elections are coming up very soon for NAMBA national administration and odd numbered districts. Anybody out there looking to take on the mantle of District 11 Director? As a District Director, you are also on the Board of Directors of NAMBA. Haute stuff indeed! Please give it some thought. Media: Brian Sorgente has taken over the District 11web site and our Facebook page from Brian Walls. We have not incurred any costs at the moment, however when we do, they should be minimal and reimbursed by NAMBA. Please try to post pictures and anything else that you may have of interest for other district members and the outside world to see. Voting Is Coming Up - What To Do? By Al Waters NAMBA Executive Secretary This is the odd year so the membership will be voting for a NAMBA President, NAMBA Vice President, and the District Director in the district you reside in if you reside in an odd numbered district. If you reside in an odd numbered district, and do not see an election for a District Director, that means that no one is running and it will roll over and your current District Director will remain in that position for another two years. It also means that he is doing a great job and no one wants to challenge him. If you do see a person to vote for as District Director in your district and his name is the only one, he really wants to return and a yes vote of confidence would be appropriate. All members of NAMBA, no matter the age, have the right to vote for NAMBA President and Vice President. There are a couple of ways you can vote. One way would be to log in under the Primary e-mail address and password. Click on the Voting Portal When it is posted) and have at it. All members listed under Primary are allowed to vote. If you do not know your password, you can request it through the Membership Portal or you can call, e-mail or text the NAMBA office for it. If you do not have Internet, a computer, a tablet, an IPad or a cell phone, contact the NAMBA and you will be assisted. Please remember, as per NAMBA rules, all voting has to be accomplished online only. No paper or e-mail ballots can be accepted. When the voting period begins, which will be around the end of September or October 1, the other method to be able to vote will be to watch for an e-mail that includes a secure link. You can click on that link and it will bypass you having to log into your Membership Portal. Same type of e-mail that you have and will receive to renew your NAMBA 2018 membership. One other feature has been added to the Voting Portal. This works well if you do not know the candidates and would like to vote. They will have the opportunity to submit a maximum two minute video. You get to see them, hear them, and learn about them. Because we want you to vote. There will be a few Rules of Engagement with the voting this year. Voting will be in effect during the NAMBA Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada. Voting will also end on October 25 while the Nationals are still running. The results will not be announced or posted while the Nats are still running. The Nats are about the Nats. On Monday after the Nats have concluded, all of the candidates involved and the NAMBA Board of Directors will be notified and public postings of the results will then take place.
