In the many Nats since 1981, it has
been my pleasure to meet so many other
boaters and their families. New friends
show up at every NAMBA Nats.
NAMBA has always been an
organization of people with common
interests. The way to meet people with
the same interests you have is to join and
support the organization. Every race you
enter, every club meeting you attend,
and every club work day you support
builds long term friendships. These are
the people and good times you will
remember for many years.
This year, Jerry Wright and I
discussed who could be the oldest
NAMBA racer at the 2013 Nats. It
turned out that it wasn’t me, or Jerry for
that matter. But, looking back at more
than 30 NAMBA Nats, there have been
several old boaters I knew back then that
no longer can attend a Nats.
I am going to attend and support
every NAMBA Nats that I can. I don’t
want to miss the opportunity to see my
old friends, see the children I knew
through boating that are grown up and
still racing model boats today, and
certainly to meet and make the new
friends who will be there.
Next year, District 9 will be hosting
the 2014 NAMBA Nats. They always
host a good event. I hope to see you
there.

However, our insurance provider uses our rule book as a determining factor in placing
liability on our organization as a whole.
As Gas Chairman I feel that it is my responsibility to raise awareness within our
membership concerning rules that fall into my area of chairmanship. Our rules are in
place to help keep boaters safe and help reduce the possibility of serious accidents.
With that being said, if you operate a model boat that exceeds the maximum engine
displacement or the maximum hull size/length, you are doing so at your own risk and
your NAMBA membership/site insurance could no longer cover you.
I look forward to working with NAMBA leadership as well as the rest of the
NAMBA membership to help keep the integrity of our hobby at the highest level
possible. In the last 10 years we have witnessed an evolution in gas boating. I hope to
preserve what has been established and only hope to refine only areas that require it.
Please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or suggestions you
may have.

Online Membership Registration System for 2014
By David Santistevan
NAMBA District 20
Editors note: David Santistevan is a model boater who has designed the platform for
online membership registration.
It is so hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the 2013 season and that it’s
time to start thinking about 2014! We are planning some exciting changes for the
online registration system this year and I want to share what we are working on.
Beginning in in early November the new system will have been tested and
hopefully online and ready for you to use.
Here is what you can expect when you renew or join online.
Expanded Features:
1. NAMBA number verification or lookup for existing members.
2.
The ability to reprint or e-mail your receipt at any time.
New Features:
1. Clubs will be able to register or renew their registration and pay their fees.
2. Apply for race sanctions and pay fees.
3. Apply for lake site insurance and pay fees.
4. Provide the Single Event form online and pay your fees immediately.
If you registered in 2013 as a new member online or renewed your 2013
membership online, your information will still be there to make the registration for
2014 as simple as a couple of clicks. If you have forgotten your logon information,
just go to the NAMBA web site and type in your e-mail address and click the “forgot
password” link to have your password sent to you.
Thank you very much.

Old Friends at the 2013 NAMBA Nats
By Alan Hobbs
NAMBA Model Boater
One of the best reasons to attend the NAMBA Nats is to catch up with old friends.
There are so many people I have met over the years of racing model boats, people I
rarely get to see; who also try to attend the Nats. The best way to catch up with them is
to attend the NAMBA Nats.
My first Nats was the 1981 event in Amarillo, Texas. That is where I met Cathie
Galbraith, Joe Monahan, Bobby Tom, and the Hazlewood family. At that time good
friends, Jerry Wright and the Roberts family also attended. These are names that have
been in newsletters and on a lot of trophies since then.
