Many of the programs have been
scanned by Al Waters and are on our
NAMBA website. As I have mentioned
in previous articles, it is a painstaking
effort to scan each page, refit, clean, and
download into the Page-Flipping
Software. With everyone having to work
for a living, this task usually stays on the
backburner until time permits us to get a
new program uploaded. Check your
NAMBA drawer and see if you have a
program, pin, or patch from the
following years:
PROGRAMS:
1972, 1976, 1977, 1979,
1980, 1981, and 1988.
PINS:
1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976,
1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1984, and
2001.
SPARE PATCHES:
1973 (Seattle),
1976 (Baltimore), and 1984 (Newark).
As you can see, the majority of the
remaining pins, patches, and programs
are all from nationals over 25 years ago
so these have to be tucked away. For
those that would like to donate their
patch, pin or program to the NAMBA
National Historical Collection, please
send to:

NAMBA Nationals History – Article 13
By Dave Rychalsky
NAMBA Historian Chairman
History was made this year! Yes, indeed. The year 2013 marks the first year for our
second generation banner! Our original banner is completely filled, so Dave Bestpitch
stepped up and paved the way for our history to continue for many years. Thanks
Dave B!
I am still working towards a FULL collection of Nationals’ Programs, National
Pins and a SPARE set of National Patches. The patches on the banner(s) have always
been the historical benchmark showing where NAMBA has been since 1972. My goal
is to get a full set of programs, full set of pins, and a spare set of patches. For those
who are new to NAMBA and do not know, we had a banner that was lost in the late
1990’s. An effort ensued to find anyone who had spare patches stowed away and
wanted to donate their patches to our new banner. Remarkably, we found a complete
set and fabricated a brand new banner! I have been keeping the banner safe at my
home from year to year, then making sure the banner is present at the current NAMBA
Nationals. I do fear that someday in the future we just might lose our banner, so I am
trying to do the impossible. Get a spare set. Let’s just say an insurance set. Here are
pictures of the spare patches and pins.
I would like to know if pins were made for the early years of the NAMBA
Nationals. I became a NAMBA member in 1984, so I do not know first hand.
We definitely had programs for every nationals, and of course a patch from every
nationals. So please, check some of the senior members of NAMBA and see if they
have any pins, programs or a patch they are willing to donate.
