The other event will be the District
Seven Finals in San Angelo hosted by
David Baker and Glenn Quarles. The
city is very power sports friendly. They
hold full size drag boat races and K boat
circle races. They would like for our
model boat races to become part of the
show. David Baker and Glenn Quarles
will be working with the city to put this
together. The city is being cooperative
and doing several things to help us out,
so I encourage as many as possible to
attend and show your support. In order
to encourage attendance this will be a
double points race. More on this to come
as the details are worked out.
Other races to keep in mind are the
NAMBA Nationals July 7-13, 2013 in
Salt Lake City, UT. The Dallas and
Houston clubs will also be hosting a race
in the R/C Boat World Championship
Series in addition to their district races.
Houston’s race will be April 12-14, 2013
and Dallas’ will be September 7-9, 2013.
I would encourage you to attend some
of these events as they are a great way to
meet some great boaters from other parts
of the country.
All of our clubs participating in the
Texas/New Mexico Points Series do a
great job and I look forward to attending
all of the races.
Safety is always a concern and we do
not want to see anyone have an accident
that would ruin this hobby for them-
selves and all concerned. Jay Stone has
volunteered to be our Safety Director. I
am sure he will have a lot to say about
safety through out the year as all of us
tend to get a little lax and need to be
reminded.
I look forward to seeing many of you
at the races this year. Here is wishing all
of you a Happy and Prosperous New
Year and a great season of racing.

Thoughts From Jerry
By Jerry Wright
District Seven Director
In District Seven, we run a points series
called the Texas/New Mexico Point Series.
Even though we offer all classes at our races,
only certain classes run toward points for the
series. We run mono, sport hydro, cat and
rigger in two engine classifications. The
normal G-1 and an Open G Class which
consists of any G-1, GX-1, G-2 or GX-2
NAMBA legal engine. G-1 runs on Saturday and the Open G classes on Sunday. We
also run Classic Thunderboat, Crackerbox, and Twin Gas Rigger. This has worked
very well for us.
We have completed 2012 with what I thought was a very successful racing season.
We had nine sanctioned races in the district with seven counting toward the Texas/
New Mexico Points Series. The attendance was up from previous years with all of the
district races having 75 to 100 boats.
Should I dare mention it? Oh well, I guess I will as a courtesy to the Dallas club. In
addition to the NAMBA races, Dallas also held the IMPBA Nationals.
The West Texas Shootout for Autism Awareness held by the Rio Grande Racers in
El Paso, Texas had well in excess of over 150 boats. I think it came close to 200.
This race had several people traveling from District 19 to attend. Many from Arizona
as well as California. We also had the Hollands from Colorado in attendance.
With District 19 having such a large contingent, it was “throw down the challenge”
time with District 7. It was accepted and the Shootout was on.
We hope this will be an annual challenge. The El Paso club came up with a great
traveling trophy for the event. Unfortunately District 7 was not up to the challenge and
the trophy went home with District 19. Maybe this year things will be different!
Congratulations go out to all the clubs for a job well done in 2012. And, to the
individuals who earned the points titles in the Texas/New Mexico Point Series:
John Borden - G-1 Mono
Brandon Borden - G-1 Crackerbox
Wendell Barrow - Gas Tunnel
Scott Grissman - G-1 Mono
Tim Martin - Open G Rigger
Dale Roberts - G-1 Cat, G-1 Sport Hydro, Open G Sport Hydro and Classic
Thunderboat
Now for 2013. We will run the point series as we did last year with one exception.
We will add Jersey Skiff to the series. The series will consist of seven races:
April 27-28 - El Paso, TX
May 18-19 - Dallas, TX
June 22-23 - Carlsbad, NM
July 27-28 - Amarillo, TX
August 17-18 - Lubbock, TX
October 5-6 (Finals) - San Angelo, TX
There are two District Seven events that I would like to recognize. As mentioned
earlier, the Rio Grande Racers hosting of The West Texas Shootout for Autism
Awareness in El Paso. This race draws racers not only from District 7, but 19 and 20
also. Jay Stone and the El Paso club do a great job of putting on this race and it raises
a substantial amount of money for Autism Awareness. The race will again host the
District 7/19 shootout challenge. I would sure like to keep the trophy and bragging
rights in District Seven this year. You don’t want to miss this premier race. We need
to defend our honor as well.
