NAMBA Online!
By David Santistevan
NAMBA District 20
Many of you have already discovered and taken advantage of the new online
registration system for renewing or joining NAMBA. We completed this system at the
end of December and the results have been better than we could have ever hoped for.
You can access the site by going to the regular NAMBA site and clicking the “Join
Now” button in the upper left corner. The current version 1.0 of the system is really
just about collecting the necessary information for a membership and then charging
you through PayPal.
In the next release of the software for next year, we will be adding features such as
the ability to obtain single event insurance, site insurance, race sanction fees, and other
related fees. This means if your club does not already have PayPal, you should
probably get one or PayPal as a guest. Another feature that we are currently discussing
is the automatic renewal notice. This would mean that at the end of the year the system
would automatically send you an email notice telling you it was time to renew and
providing a link to directly log on and renew. This should make renewal just a matter
of a few clicks each year.
The 2013 NAMBA Nationals for Nitro and Gas will be held in Salt Lake City. This
year will be the first year that all NAMBA National registrations will be done online.
This is a huge advantage to the hosting Decker Dunkers club in that it will provide us
immediate information about facilities, heat racing, and resources with just a few
clicks. To compile and tabulate all of the paper forms in the past has taken a huge
number of hours. With this new online registration for the Nationals, we will be able to
know the moment the registration is closed how many entries we have in each class,
down to how many dinners we will need at the banquet. We are hoping this will be a
model for all future National races.
As I said before, if you currently do not have a PayPal account, you may want to
look into it. It is the most secure way for you to pay for things online without having to
enter personal or banking information in to various websites. Your PayPal account can
fund directly from your checking account or your credit /debit card and carries a high
level of fraud protection. Another good reason to get your PayPal account is it is
rumored, but not confirmed, that next year if you wish to pay your NAMBA
membership with a credit card it will need to be done through the online system using
PayPal. One thing that a lot of people do not know is that you do not have to have a
PayPal account to be able to use PayPal to pay transactions online. PayPal will accept
your credit/debit card or check without even having to create an account.
For those of you still on the “on ramp” to the “Information Super Highway” for
either online renewals or Nationals registration, you may contact me directly and I will
be more than happy to either do the registrations for you, or walk you through the
process. Please feel free to contact me at daves@concentricsinc.com or by telephone at

It’s the Breaks
(Continued from page 9)
forward brings the bow up. This,
combined with the lift that the sponsons
acting like two small delta wings
generate at high angles of attack, gives
the classic blow over. Big aft wings
combined with variable angle canards
increase stability, but if the boat’s angle
gets very high, they won’t be enough. If
the boat can be trimmed to fly level
close to the water, hopefully the
problem won’t arise. It’s a balancing act
between the lift from the center section
and the planning lift of the sponsons.
When the boats get fast enough for their
weight, like riggers, air lift isn’t needed.
NAMBA Hall of Fame
By Jerry Dunlap
NAMBA Hall of Fame Chairman
Since being appointed the NAMBA
Hall of Fame Chair following the 2012
NAMBA Nationals, I have been
working to update information on
members of the Hall of Fame. Here are
a few facts regarding members of the
NAMBA Hall of Fame.
1. With the addition of Lenny Blake in
2012 there are 45 members.
2. All of the original five HOF members
inducted in 1982 are deceased. 12 other
HOF members are also no longer with
us.
3. At the time this article was submitted,
(and hopefully for a few more years), I
am the senior member of the HOF since
being inducted in 1983.
4. As best as I can determine, 11 or 12
current HOF members continue to
participate in competitive model boating
events.
5. There are three husband and wife
HOF members and one father/son.
With the assistance of fellow HOF
members Jim Wilson, Lohring Miller,
and Al Waters, the HOF information on
the NAMBA website is being rewritten
to reflect a current perspective. The
HOF Nomination Form has been
streamlined and will be available on the
website in the near future. The alpha-
betical listing of all HOF members with
contact information continues to be a
work in progress.
