2021 NAMBA Nats Race Program
Tracy Osborne - Marysville WA 2009 It was karaoke night at the hotel - you haven’t experienced anything until you’ve heard a model boater sing! Those of you that were there know who you are so I won’t mention any names. Dennis Caines When the starting table and the boat and everything caught fire and we didn't know it till they put us on the clock. I couldn't figure why the outboard engine was hot. Then we saw the bubbling around the table. We started throwing everything in the lake. All in all no injuries or damage, but it was quite a site Favorite part of model boating, why do you still do it? Some general reasons provided: Tinkering with new boats, evolving technology Bench racing The people, meeting people from all over Racing/Competion Robert Holland Getting to travel and race with my family, hanging out with friends al day and night. Allie Terry My honest reason why I love boating is how big it has made my family. I love meeting new people and competing. My favorite person to compete with is my dad. I like beating him..idk it makes me happy inside lol but it’s also our bonding time I really like spending time with my dad and talking on our drives to the lake. That’s the main reason why I still boat after all these years. Most of the kids I grew up racing with grew out of it and is off living their own lives but I always want boating to be apart of me, and when I have kids I want them to learn this sport and love to spend time with their grandma and grandpa on the lake as well. Joey Caines I have so many both District 8 and RCU/UNW/ERCU, I love the brotherhood/fellowship at the races. It does not matter your budget or equipment, rich guy doing it and low buck backyard scrap it up and go racing guy doing it, husbands, wives , children, grandparents. It don’t matter it’s a family thing, You leave with yourself and or a small family heading to an event only to spend the day or weekend with a huge family. The stories created in all of these moments from the weekends of racing are priceless. And of course the competition and racing action are an absolute adrenaline rush. (continued on next page) Robert Holland - Salt Lake City UT 2019 Hawaiian Day/Night... All racers wearing Hawaiian Race Shirts and Watching every participant and family members, enjoying a luau together. Watching all the men try and dance will be burned in my memory forever. Good Times! Jim Osborne - Wichita 1988 It was my first nationals, I was near the driver’s stand and heard Jimmy Brown while driving his X Mono yelling at his dad/pitman “lean me out daddy I’ve got to go”. Chuck McGaughy - Los Angeles 1972 1972 Nationals when my “A” Hydro was the first “A” Hydro to set a Class A Hydro “straight away” record of 40 mph. It didn’t last very long because someone else broke it that same day. Dave Rychalsky - Camarillo CA 1995 Night racing at the Nationals. Eric Bourlet - Springfield, OR 2002 We were working on getting everyone into their pits and a van pulls in. Out wheels Doug DeWhite. He rolls over to me and looks down the row of pit canopies and then utters the words I will never forget. "Well looks like the whole family is here". He then went on to say that he views the nats as a family reunion. I have adopted that point of view and realize that it's much more fun if you look at the nationals as a "Family Reunion" Joey Caines - Reno NV 1985 Getting to race Paul Dunlap’s A Mono. Big wind and white caps most of the week. Dad was taking black and whites for Jerry Dunlap and his write up for post national articles. And I’ll never forget all the wrenches taped to the decks to try to keep the boats on the water. Al Waters - Bristol, PA 1993 After winning the Nats final in Nitro Scale Unlimited three of us circled Del Val Island twice. We were presented a special patch. 2021 NAMBA Nationals Page 21
